4x07 "Scylla and Charybdis" - Discussion Thread

Right, first off I just want to apologise. I know it’s VERY late, and I know it’s a bit long (six pages in Arial, size 11 or 3200 words) but I did my best in the situation I’m living in right now. Again, I don’t think it’s up to my usual standard but that’s due to the stuff I’m going through but I tried my best. Thanks to y’all for being so patient.

Ok, the title – well basically, I have a little obsession with Greek Mythology. Scylla and Charybdis is a myth about two monsters, and it’s where the saying “Between a rock and a hard place” originated from. The story goes that there was a stretch of narrow water separated by a large rock which turned the water into two narrow channels. Sailors had to choose which way they wanted to go, however, they faced a problem. Each channel was guarded by one of the two monsters and so whichever way the sailors went they still faced a horrible outcome. I chose this title because I felt it fitted in with the story and the decision that Sawyer had to make. It was a hard choice and whichever way he went he still had a horrible outcome.

Oh, and originally I had planned on calling this “Achilles’ Heel” (told you I’m obsessed) but I later changed my mind.

“Fermez la bouche” is a less than polite was of saying “shut up” as it literally translates to “shut your mouth.”

Any other questions, comments and so on please post but I can’t promise I’ll be the most responsive of souls.

Firstly loved the title as you know I like the myths too, studied the epic back in AS level... happy days.

Anyway, I throughly enjoyied reading that episode. It was, simply, superb. The characters and plot were both engaging and realistic. There were some surprisingly creepy moments with the MIB and the TV monitors. I like how my character has become such a large feature. The flashforward was good as well... seems as though you've sercured Sawyer's ticket off the island.

I was surprised that it didn't end with Kate's detah but the future is certainly looking grim... I wis I was writing episode 8!

Once again- excellent! *applauds*

It worked, goes with the use ofmythology in the show.

It really worked well. I was surprised how well you did do the creepy scenes because I know it isn't your genre, but it worked well I've got to say. Lol, I didn't really expect anythign less...

That was great B, and I think the title was very relevant (not that I knew what it was, but your explanation makes sense :P).

I thought the Sawyer choosing scene was clever, with Sawyer (subconsciously) choosing Cassidy in the end.

I liked the unrelated stuff too; Alex and her problems, Ben vs. Dani

Another great ep

And then the ending, a simple scene but I like how it connected in with (Kate?) screaming!

This ep has made my mind up on who's flashback I'm going to do (assuming JB doesn't do it first )

That was excellent, well worth waiting for! The Man in Black really has some bizarre powers. He is a projection of peoples fears, you said?

Good to see the Alex-Karl-Danielle story line taken up in a sub plot, and also how you gave Sayid a prominent role. And he very much sounds like Sayid, well done!

Also the teddy bear scene, almost a copy of the Michael and Walt scene in "Adrift" which is exactly what happens all the time on Lost. Scenes we have seen already, but played out with different characters. A great homage!

And the flash forward - I didn't see that one coming. Not even when Sawyer said he thought he was dead too. Only when they actually talked about the plane crash.

Now of course Kate can't die because we have seen her in a flash forward too. Just the question then what is going to happen to her, what exactly did Sawyers choice amount to? And if that wasn't Kate, then who was screaming?

Awwww, thanks. Yeah, he does. Lol, yes, I thought that because he was all in black it reminder me of the night, which reminded me of nightmares. I kinda went with it from there.

Well of course, and lol, I couldn't leave out Sayid, he's too lovely. Oh I did, well that's good too!

Yay! You noticed. That's what I was going for, except obviously I think this version will have ended happily. Cassidy and Clementine accepting him into their lives.

Teehee, well I had to secure his fate somehow.

I know I so wanted to kill her, although, technically, we could just kill her, right JB? Just get it over with. That'd make me happy again. Not that I'm trying to guilt trip you or anything :P It all depends on JB...no pressure sweetie :P
