4x04 "Everything is going to change" - Discussion thread

This is the discussion thread for episode 4x04: “Everything is going to change”. Hope you like it!

For those of you who expected murl to write it, we swapped! You can read all about that in the Season 4 discussion and write up threads. And Rocco approved the swap, so its all good. She is going to write episode 4x14 now. Well not now, I mean after episode 4x13 of course.

I did this as a script in the end, as Orson suggested the other day. This worked much better for me because when I started it was like “Hurley said” and “yelled Jack” and so on which became really tedious. But I’ve never done a script before, I can only hope it works for you too.

I got a bit carried away and its a bit long. And I do hope you have read it to the end because if not you might want to kill me and quite right you would be. Because you might think I left you guys with a complete mess to sort out. But I didn’t, I cleaned up after me.

Right then. Looking forward to hear your thoughts on what the hell was going on there.

Wow 108! I really liked it!

I wasn't at all sure what was going on throughout. Brilliantly unpredictable.

My main underlieing confusion is now whether Hurley had a Desmond-esc flash or whether it was just his crazy making him 'save' Kate.

Very good though. Personally i'd rather these eps be too long than too short.

Oh my word...

Awesomeness! I loved it!

My guess is Hugo saw an alternate version of his reality. What's so great about this, and very Lost like, is that you've left it open to interpretation. Although it could possibly be an alternate version of Hugo's reality, it could also be explained logically, with Hugo hallucinating..

The flashback was very good too, as it tied it seamlessly with the on-island events (something the Lost writers sometimes struggle to do ) and loved how, in the end, he wasn't hallucinating but was actually being 'made' to 'make his own luck' and to actually 'do something'. Not to mention Hawkins (Ms Destiny) nudging Hugo into the right direction, toward his destiny...!

Very very good, the bar has just been raised

The only thing I didn't like (and it's only a little thing) is Hugo 'winking' at the end but I'm just nit picking :P

And it's good to see you kept the 'big' storyline (Widmore, Locke etc) moving along

Well as amazingly brilliant as that was, I didn't understand it at all!

Did Hurley save Kate by catapulting something into the tree at the end so she didnt climb higher? I'm really confused

That was great man. Really impressed. I love hurley episodes anyway, and your caught the feel of them perfectly. I never even realised this thing was happening. Wish id signed up! lol

Hah I liked the wink... but...

That would perfectly fit as a real eppisode. You captured the way Hurley talks, manerisms, constantly talking in dreamy questions blissfully. Everything flowed, and I understood what was happening the entire time! But, thats not to say the mystery is there: understanding and comprehension are two different entities!

Wow, I think this eppisode has really shaped things together for season 4!

And I am deffinatly, deffinatly gonna read this again!

Keep up the brilliant writing!

That was a great episode 108! I never thought that Kate falling to her death could bring me anything but happiness, but such a thing also soon confused me greatly! I don't do well when it comes to time travelling/alternate reality stuff but you did a great job with it, and I like how you kept the other storylines moving, like with poor Locke getting beaten up and Jack wanting everyone to stay together for the rescue party.

I think you could have pulled this episode off just as well if you had written it in prose form, but it works as a script just fine

Very good episode there, 108! It was deliciously twisted with it's warped visions of how things might have been! I thought you worked very well in script format, it suited the story more, I felt! Other than a handful of minor quibbles about dialogue and characterization I think it the best episode thus far... and it's sure going to be a hard act to follow!

Awww. Just for you, here is the deleted scene.

Hurley walks towards the camera, his face starts filling the screen completely, and the last frame is of his right eye. He winks.

I cut it in the end because this actually was about Hurley acknowledging (sp?) that he is a character on a TV show. I guess thats what EPU and murl found was wrong with it.
