I heard a theory that this whole LOST thing, is, that everyone who really died in the plane, DIED, and the people on the island, lived, and are in comas. They are "living" their lives either through coma dreams as such, or some sort of mind altering drug. When people are eventually dying in the show, they are either dying in real life from their coma, or waking up from their coma and are in the real world again. lol.

This was one of those first theories that people developed back when the show started and as the show has continued it is even more unlikely in my opinion. I think it would be one of the worst routes to take the show, while evidence from the show suggests it is not a dream or drug induced experience.

This was a popular theory back in the early days of S1, but I think there are too many problems with this notion now..
Whislt there's nothing wrong with the idea per say, I think it lacks the 'real-stakes' ethos that the writers have continually inferred. Also, would happens when a comatose character has a dream? Are they double-dreaming in effect? Again, it's interesting to come back to this idea but at this stage it still looks far fetched. Thanks for sharing though (and as I often say..you just never know)

It would be great when all these answers are revealed, but it will be sad to see it end
On another topic, in season 4, Micheal is on the ship, and the bomb blows killing him (and Jin). But when Micheal got off the Island earlier, and was back in America, he kept trying to kill himself, but failed. Why? And how come he died on the ship? Was this his fate? Did he do his "task" at trying to save everyone, so the island let him die? Im confused hee hee

an immense cop-out after four seasons' worth of build-up. However, I imagine something like this to be the emergency back-up plot resolution, should the series be suddenly cancelled before the writers find they have time to tie up the complicated mythos is a truly satisfactory way.

When Michael was off the island, time-line wise, this was a few weeks after he and Walt set sail from the island at the end of Season 2. He ended up telling Walt about what he did to Ana-Lucia and Libby, and Walt disowned him, causing Michael to fall into depression and try to kill himself. However, as Tom told him in the alley, "the island won't let you!" - So, the island didn't let him kill himself..just like the island didn't let Jack jump off that bridge in his flash-forward shown in the season 3 finale. The island, therefore, has the ability to prevent people (or certain people) from taking there own lives. The reason? The reason is that they still have 'work to do'. For Michael, this work seemed to involve saving the life of baby Aaron, as by delaying the bomb, he enabled Aaron to get off the frieghter (via Sun) and home - which is exatly where 'Claire' said he should be: "Don't you dare bring him back kate! (Christian also said something similar in the S4 episode Cabin Fever). This theory is further fuled by the fact that 'Christian' (or the manifestation of) - Aaron's grandfather appeared to Michael moments before the boat exploaded and moments after Aaron was on the chopper - "You can go now Michael". So basically, Michael, like all of the Losties was brought to the island for a reason - it would appear that his reason (certainly once he left in S2) was to save Aaron (and or Sun/Ji Yeon). In many ways he was an important chess piece for the wider game..perhaps we will find out more about Aaron's importance later on down the line.. Hope that helps ![]() Quote:
