Smokie is Made From Exotic Matter?

I think that The Smoke Monster could be made up of "Exotic Matter". Smokie could be the 'gasseus' form of Exotic Matter.

I say this because of the glyphs that were seen on the wall which led into Ben's secret tunnel..from whence he summond Smokie to maim Keamy and his men. Similar glyph markings were also seen on a pillar in the "exotic matter" territory undeneath the orhid station.

This would make sense to me, since we know that hypothetically exotic matter creates a "casimir effect", which in turn has time and space properties. With this in mind, it could be argued that Smokie is able to 'time-travel' through peoples subconscious..as perhaps seen when it streamed memories from Eko's past in The 23rd Psalm.

I can't say I completely understand the exotic matter stuff but this theory definatley makes sense to me.

Sounds quite convincing actually , but I'm confused what's exotic matter, like pinapples and stuff ?

Since the producers once said everything on the show could be explained by science then I'd go with this one. I'm curious to see how they explain the island moving though.

It's basically a hypothetical substance that lies outside the boundaries of conventional scientific laws.

It is sometimes referred to as "Anti-matter" or "negative energy". I believe that such energies could also be the reason why (or how) dead people are 'reanimated' and brought back to life, either physically through healed wounds, or via manifestations. More likely, it probably has possibilities in the field of time-space.

I think the island moving could be linked vacuum fluctuations. By turning the wheel, Ben may have charged the island's electromagnetic properties, which in turn opened up a worm-hole and teleported the island through time and space. Just like how Ben got transported to a different time and space, The island itself also moved. I believe this would fall under the Casimir Effect..or Casimir Force.

I could be wrong however, but that's my intepretation.

If Smokie IS made from this exotic matter substance, then it could mean that Smokie is able to zip through time..and perhaps time and space. I would think that Smokie's one weakness (other than a stare down vs Mr. Eko) would be electromagnetism (hence the sonic fence?)..it's strength and weakness. Perhaps.

I believe that Faraday understands how the island (and perhaps smokie) can travel through time-space, as in his journal he had the words "imaginery Space" (4.05). I think this could possibly what is known as "empty space" in physics. Empty Space having links with faster than light travel.

Another thing that I forget to mention, and the thing which actually sparked my thinking on this..is the possibly subtle link in Locke seeing a "VERY BRIGHT LIGHT" when he looked into the eye of (the island) smokey..and Ben's turning of the wheel (and hence moving of the island) also causing a VERY BRIGHT LIGHT.

In season 1 Locke reference his seeing of this VERY BRIGHT LIGHT as being "BEAUTIFUL". One wonders whether Locke subconsciously related this bright light that he saw inside Smokey as also being his ascension to leader of the Others/Island. This, I believe was also a "BEAUTIFUL" moment for St. John.

With the notion of time-loops, and even conscious time-travel, along with my hypothetis that the 'Exotic Matter' allows Smokey to TIME-TRAVEL, it could very well be that Locke was seeing a future moment..the "BRIGHT LIGHT" that he saw in season 1, could very well have been the BRIGHT LIGHT caused by the island's moving..and hence Locke's arrival to his destiny as leader. One wonders whether 'sensations' can create an IMPRESSION which hasn't yet been realised..a bit like dejavu gives us an impression of something which we should know, but can't quite attribute.

I think this knits together quite nicely, and even if it's wrong, I challenge Darlton to not think it credible

I should also add, that they could easily have used a PURPLE LIGHT to signify the moving of the island - just like when Des turned the failsafe key. But they instead chose a very bright light of no distinct color..much like the light Locke saw within Smokey.

I should further add that I've thrown in the time-travel notion because I think it could also make sense in relation to the exotic matter and Smokey, but i guess the parallel of the "very bright lights" could also work without that.

In one episode when mr Eko and Charlie are heading to that plain, Eko confronts with it and there are like a flashes inside it. Like a pictures or something. Fascinating!

And in 3rd season there's a scene where Kate and Juliette ran into monster. And at one moment... It looked like it took a pictures of them, and with flashe too.
Anyone has ideas???

My personal belief is that Smokey is a hybrid of alien matter and Dharma Initiative science. Infact I'd even go as far as to say that Smokey pre-dates Dharma and was once a 'pure' alien (or natural) entity, and Dharma 'advanced' or 'devolved' (or perhaps unhinged) it.

Re: the flashes inside Smokey during the Eko encounter - I think they were flashes from Eko's past. Smokey is, IMO, able to extract past memories from peoples subconscious and use this data to either judge them or assess the best way to 'use' them - just as Smokey (or the Island) later tried to do by using the Yemi manifestation in seasons 2 and 3.

I think that the actual flashes in the Kate/Juliet encouter was a heightened form of this - maybe because it was more difficult to extract data from Kate and Juliet who seem to lack a conscience
