Widmore - Past "Chosen One" - Lost Community Forums - Official Spoiler-free Lost Fansite

I think it could be possible that Charles Widmore was once a "chosen one" like Ben and Locke..perhaps preceeding Ben.

This could explain why he believes the island is his and that Ben "stole it" from him. Did Widmore turn the wheel..was he tricked into it? This could also explain why Widmore didn't personally journey in search of the island (even Penny made the trip), because he cannot return, just like Ben supposedly cannot after his turning of the wheel.

Widmore's knowledge of the island (The Tempest location, 2nd protocol etc)could also be down to his past "chosen one" status, although granted that could also be down to his researching the Black Rock ournal that he bought in 4.05 flashback, and his past association with Dharma.

Still, i'll put this out there.

I don't know about him being the chosen one as I can't imagine him having a Daughter off island without Mrs. Widmore wondering where/why he keeps dissapearing to the island.
But remember how Jack was trying to get back by flying and looking through the maps, maybe this was why Widmore was so interested in the Black Rock journel, as this would give hom the co-ordinates. If he was in the previous Oceanic 6, or whatever they were, then maybe this is why Ben can't kill him as he needs him to make sure he can get back, like he said to Jack about all of them going back, so they need each other alive to ensure the other returns.
