Default TTT: Purposely Bad Writing

Toby Theory Time (TTT) has returned in a new incarnation which will continue to instill thoughts, ideas and ultimatly inspiration to you. Written on the toilet at 11:30 last night, this theory was my attempt at defining season 4 in my head and getting ideas straight. I really want as much critism of this theory as possible: rip it to shreads and pick out the holes, in order to find *drumroll* the truth.

Season 4: Purposely Bad Writing

"This wasn't supposed to happen!"

No eye. The first bread crumb. As we dig deep into this rabbit hole theory, I hope this will act as a catalyst for your own theories.

Season 4 is the first series to open without the iconic eye shot. This leads me onto a spark. What if season 4, was not supposed to happen like it is? That course-correcting Mrs. Hawking is on stike pending better pay, much like the writers themselfs? Many other occurances within the show support this, so lets jump to the next ring of gunpowder lining the mecca of truth.

Hang on, where has the mecca gone? Jacob has upped Jesus Sticks and left Locke in the dark, to be taunted by Ben, doubted by many and dictating so much he tells people he is not. Jacob, "Him", may have left our timeline: our season 4, as it is not the truth, hes gone to where the real action is, leaving Locke squirming.

The vocal point of Season 4, what provides it "umph" is the surreal extra dimension provided by the Flash Forwards. However, with these Flash Forwards, the hatch number rules do not seem to apply. Any mention of numbers never seem to land on 4,8,15,16,23 or 42 (>: Execute, brother). Oceanic 6? Why not 4 or 8? (edit: ohh, as iirc esn has said, 6 lottery numbers each relating to a character. hmm!) An indicator perhaps that the FFs are not the be all and end all. "There is another way" - Natwest, the first person to find a LOST screenie with NatWest in gets my love.

This theory seems to be bulking and thining like the shape of an hourglass. You want proof of my theory? Desmond: saw Claire get on the helicopter with Aaron. Eh Hem. Kate and Aaron, dramatic end music? My Losty sence is tingling more than Miles is panicking right now!

Sawyer, is not himself. Truth JB. Two options appear open: things are not as they seem, or Sawyer is setting up a real crazy long con.

I exclaim to Sayid: whatever! The day I believe you could do those things for Ben is the day you would be standing to my right dancing in a tutu this very moment. *turns to right and jaws drop through the floor*. Even he exclaimed this to Ben, I think he would rather be killed. But we know he and Desmond have gone off to the frieghters, so it depends what the inside man does to him. I actually thought that Miles was the inside man, and that talking to Ben was to inform him that he is ready.

They missed Christmass. No mention at all? This is not political correctness gone wrong, this is a sign, a bread crumb! What is occuring is not occuring correctly. Even Dan says "this cant be right!".

In my opinion, S4 is the illusion that Ben wants us to beleive. Look through the looking glass, delve deep into your hearts: Mikhail is impervious surely to the mere grenade, and Hurley could never go back to shooting hoops in the institute. Not Pennies Boat. Not Season 4.

PS: The title is meant to be shocking, and I dont beleive it to be true: I think the writing is astounding, especially with the pressure that is on the writers at the moment to come out with the goods.

Great post Toby and well delivered

This has been nagging away at me also - do we have a case pf perception eroding? As you point out many things seem 'off' - not off as in bad, but off as in 'different' than what we would expect them to be. It's almost as if TPTB are weaving a very fine thread, one which demarcates between reality and perception/s of realities..

Christian alive?
Sayid working for Ben?
Kate Aaron's mom?
Locke STILL angry and frustrated despite being 'saved'

Whilst I realise that each of the above can be explained via alternatives perceptions, it's this apparent application of perception which has enthralled me. In another thread I mentioned how Daniel's payload time delay could be more to do with ones 'perception' of time, rather than time itself.

Are we, the viewers missing something? Are we perceiving something which is unreal?

Locke gave Ben the book 'Valis' to read - a brilliant book which touches upon realities, perceptions and the quest for answers. Locke even advises Ben to re-read the book in case he missed something the first time around - well, perhaps this is indicative with what is happening in S4. Perhaps the flash forwards are memories with glitches. That's not to say we are watching an alternate time-line, but that our perception of these flash-forwards are ridden with errors, why? Because one day they will be flash-backs, and perceiving the future-present in order to fill in the blanks of the past is well.....just ask Daniel, he's having the exact same problem

I'm just interested in how they appear to be taking this grounded future reality, yet throwing in mystical perception-bending tools at the same time. They're trying to tell us something methinks..
