This is basically a follow up to this theory here
I have always belived that there has been a 'central governor' pulling the strings in Lost. All the connections, the coincidences. Some quotes convince me of this: "Do not confuse coincidence with fate" "Each of us was brought here for a reason" and of course "We have to go back" Basically, I belive that all the events that have happened with lost have happened because somone made them happen. What seems like a series of random choices and connections and so on are in fact aspects of a design. Somone wants them all to be on that island for a reason, to find or to serve the islands true purpose. All of the islands inhabitants are there not through choices that they have made, but through the choices of other people and through the passage of 'fate' (Gold car, big bus and of course the numbers). Of course for this to happen there has to be a big conspiracy - that filters through so many levels. Which has to involve a lot of people but ulitmately has to be run by one person, the man with the plan has it were. "the man behind the curtian". More info on this thread. Now I had thought that a Jacob type figure could be this master of puppets if you like but now I would like to point to another candiate - Mathew Abaddon. He seems to have been introduced to the series for a reason and has featured in 2 episodes - once claiming to be a lawyer for Oceanic and then putting the A-team together that we saw with Naomi - to bring the friegthies together to serve what ever purpose the island wants and is trying to bring the Oceanic 6 back to finish the job with Hurley. However, I am of split minds on this. Because, strangley I also belive that he could be 'the big bad' also. Purely because of his name. Abaddon. Now, there is some debate to if the names have any relevance on lost but this one sticks out more than the others, and simply cant be an accident or a nice little side note. A quick look at the wikipedia article (I admitt that wiki isnt the best source) shows the cultral infulence of that name. Basically, it is one of the names given to the anti- christ or the ture form of the devil himself. It is a cultral and relgious reference that can't be ingored. So I come up with a second theory, along the same strands of my previous. There is not 1 central governor, but 2: "two sides.. two players, one is light, the other dark" Basically, these two have been fighting against each other for controll of the island and its ture purpose, manipulating the pieces around like how you would move pieces in a game of backgammon each one getting their respective pieces in position to strike. Just to update this theory, it seems plausable that Abbadon is in someway a possiable master of puppets to an exent - with the introduction of the bracelts, as some sort of ID that they are part of the same organistation. I dont think that he was the ecomonist who was killed, but somone, who was much higher up. Im also thinking that Ben could perhaps be the 'good guy' after all and is trying to eliminate him since he is a threat to the island. On the other hand, Ben could well be the islands true enemy (has per Alperts statements to Locke about him) and is trying to disrupt the work that he is trying to achomplish, either with or against Mr Shepard.

Yeah i think EVERYTHING in lost has happened for a reason. I don't think any of the passengers of flight 815 were on that plane by chance.
Its kinda like a bigger more complex Trueman show. And ultimately better, cos that film sucked major league donkey balls. |

I do think he is the devil in human form, or at least he signifies something to do with the devil/anti-christ etc.

I think you're taking his name too literally, lost is scientific not religious, and so his name will probably signify him being a bad character, but not literally the devil. I do not think that he is the one pulling the strings, he's been put in the series too early and theres been no mystery around him, it just doesn't make sense, i think we'll find soon theres someone bigger ml x

On the contary, I never said that he was the Devil per say - I was just uing that as a means to title my thread. I was merely suggesting that it might be a clue to his true identity of a puppet master of sorts. (see this thread for more details.) With lost, you have to look for clues where they are and the names are one such clue and his name is perhaps the most significant we have had so i think that Im right to take some form of hint from it. You say that hes been put in the series too early - i disagree. The show is now in its 4th season and at the beginning of the end - why would they put him in now if he wasnt signficant in someway? I would also disagree with you saying that Lost is not relgious, that is it is only scientific. There are elements of both - indeed the battle between science and faith is one of the shows core elements and I cant see how anyone who has watched the show can say that it is totally scientific. |

ok i was a bit extreme to say only scientific, but I think it is more scientific than religious. It's hard to describe what i mean by too early, i mean there's been no character build up like there was with Ben or like there is with Jacob, he's just suddenly been presented to us and something just doesn't add up that he is the "main guy" ml x

Well you say potatoe... I guess it is open to interpertation. Like I say there is elements of both in lost. And on the other hand, there must be a reason why he hasnt had this build up - or maybe this is his build up. Just for me, it adds up to him being a main character. |

Wow just reading this again, and after last nights episode, all I can say is WOW!!!
![]() OK, I may have things a little worng, but I was thinking along the right lines. Hes not working against Christian, hes working with Christian. And Widmore and Ben are the two fractions, and Abbadon is the puppet master - along with Christian. Boy am I good ![]() |
