Feet, Smoke, Temples and Adam and Eve

I'll admit that this isn't well thought out at all but what the hey. Hows this for a total stab in the dark:

Version 1
Adam and Eve's people were the first imhabitants of the Island. The fought against Black Smoke and trapped it in the Statue, which was built to mark the site of this victory along with a Temple. Something happened that caused the Staute to break and Black Smoke to be set free.

Years later.......

The Others arrive on the Island and find this Temple. They then take it as their own

Version 2
Adam and Eve's people build the Statue to mark something. Somehow the staute comes to life as Black Smoke.

The Others then come along and find this something and use it as a Temple. (Maybe to Jacob?)

Interesting..the show appears to be heading off into a more supernatural type of direction, and it seems possible that the statue represents somekind of nod to 'ownership' (of the island) and ritual.

I'm not sure about Smokey being trapped inside of it..although this and it's possible 'escape' could explain the missing toe..if indeed a toe is missing.

I certainly agree with the reference to several civilisations living on the island at any given point in time..and this is interesting when applied with Ben's 'suggestion' that only ONE "side" could live on the island at any one time:

"when it became clear that one side had to go..that one side had to be purged.."

Of course he was referring to the Dharmafreaks, but still, it suggests that the island..or people on the island, have difficulty sharing it.

Not sure this is relelvant to your theory per se, but I thought i'd mention it since it touches on the island civilisation issues.

This theory has room for development, will be interesting to see where you take it!

Interesting, tbh, I'd totally forgotten about that statue. I can't think of any theory as to what the black smoke or statue are, but It'll be interesting to hear what others think
