It is often said that moments before people pass on to the next life, they see a tunnel with a bright light at the end.
"Come into the light" Is often said to be the call from a loved one already in the beyond.. With that in mind I'd like to attempt an extention on my previous theory regarding the Islands dead. First a (very brief) recap: In my previous theory I suggested that the islands dead are able to return via the subconscious mechanisms of their loved ones (i.e. their guilt). I also believe that the island and/or Jacob is able to inhabit their bodies and use this visual impression to invade the subconscious of the living - thus using the dead as a tool to manipulate and end. This was recently seen with Yemi judging Eko and Boone telling Locke he had 'work to do'..and perhaps also Walt in the Dharma pit scene (3.21). This theory is specifically Hurley centric and it involves his visitation from Charlie..and a bit of Jacob thrown in. I believe that Hurley is special - just like the rest of the main characters..some of them, like Hurley are "damaged goods", but even damaged goods have value. Whilst Jack has the ability to heal and Juliet the ability to create life, Hurley is a beacon. (speculation - please see this thread for more reasoning) This would help explain why Charlie was able to visit him, and why Hugo's friend was also able to see Charlie. Hurley, like Locke, is able to affect those around him and make them heightened aswell - just as Locke was able to help facilitate Ben's walking impairment.. Notice how at first Charlie appears unable to see Hurley clearly - he calls out to Hurley as if he cannot quite see him, and walks slowly with his arms outstretched, as if he were visually impaired: ![]() I believe this is because Charlie is stepping into another dimension..he's momentarily leaving the world of the dead and walking beyond the curtain into the world of the living. Hurley, is quite literally the beacon which is allowing Charlie him to navigate into this world. Charlie's confidence increases the closer he gets to Hurley because his beacon becomes more visible. Notice what Charlie says to Hurley: "I am dead, but I'm also here" I believe that we can take this as canon - this is Charlie, this is not the Smoke Monster (imo). ![]() I also believe that Hurley's 'beacon' is what enabled him to move Jacob's cabin from within the circle of ash which was trapping him - I believe that Hugo literally moved Jacob's cabin - how?..he's a beacon..once something is able to get a lock on his beacon, it is able to navigate/follow/move towards or with him - this is what Charlie did, this is how Jacob's cabin was moved (albeit temporarily). With such a gift, one wonders just what Jacob has in store for him? ![]() Incidentally, we have heard cries of "help" from both Hurley and Jacob in recent cabin visits..just putting that out there. Not sure what it is i'm suggesting, but y'know, crazy things happen in LOST. ------------------------------ I'm not saying the theory in this thread is definetely correct, despite the way it is written. I hope to build on this and perhaps integrate into my Island of Souls and Sacrifice thread. Any comments welcomed and considered.

After the episode "Confirmed Dead", I think this is due for an update. In particular I am interested in the idea that Miles can communicate with the dead. I did not think i'd have so much ammo to go on so soon, if ever. This revelation really boosts my confidence in relation to this theory.
To be updated soon.

Excellent theory IMO.
Well backed up with recent events in episodes and I like the fact you used other examples such as Jack being a healer etc. He could very well be a beacon, and having watched the whole Hurley and Charlie scene at the mental hospital again, I think you could be quite spot on.

hmmm...you could be on to something here, but what would be the significance of the island? The island has to be significant and the island and Jacob are definitely connected. The thing is Charlie was visible to Hurley when he wasn't on the island, he was back home and so the island would lose it's significance if what you said is the case. ml x

![]() The significance of the island is that the island heightens peoples abilities and is literally a hub of energy, sensations, emotions etc. The island, in my mind, is a kind of God's gift which is a gateway into another world where anything and everything is possible. I believe that by summoning 'gifted' people, the island is asking for help but at the same time, there are those who seek to use the island and it's special inhabitants for their own ends. I agree that Jacob and the island are connected - however, I am not certain that they are one in the same thing - Jacob appears to be a 'man' who has become stuck in time (or some alternate verse') - I think he (if it is even a 'he' and not an 'it') is not at one with the island and perhaps has different goals from it. Although I am also open to him being one with the island, if they choose to go down that route. I think Hugo was able to see Charlie in the real world, because it's not uncommon for people to see ghosts and spirits in the real world - it's just frowned upon or disregarded. Also this relates to my point that Hugo is lieterally 'special' - as I outline in this thread, there are those who are truely gifted, those who have abilities (whether they know it or not) to see beyond the curtain of perception and into the stream between the 'living' and the 'living dead'. Hurley is a beacon (imo) therefore it was possible for Charlie (or Charlie's soul/consciousness) to attach itself to Hugo's beacon and 'come into the light'. I am a big believer in the conscoiusness of the dead still existing in a dimension which is too acute for most of us to see - afterall consciousness has to go somewhere - like with Des' 4.05 time-travelling, the body remains, but the consciousness always aheads towards the flashing light..
