"Groups"

This isn't excatly a theory, more a thought I had this morning.

In each season of Lost so far we have been introduced to a new group of people

• S1- "Losties"
• S2- "Tailies"
• S3- Others
• S4- ?

So I guess this is your theories/ideas on what group, if any, is brought in at the end of next month.

I think it will be something to do with Dharma, maybe survivors of the project trying to undo their mistakes, maybe people trying to destroy all evidence that Dharma ever existed.

I find it amazing that we virtually spent a whole season with the Others and yet there's SO much that we don't know about them. Compared to the Losties, the Others still have so much story to tell, and I guess the Losties will now also, what with the 'freighterites' coming to the island.

As you mention, I think that this season will indeed focus heavily on a new group - I'll call them the freighterites - or 'Neo-Dharma/Widmore', as I believe them to be a faction of Dharma/Widmore people who have a vested interest in the island. I believe that they have been trying to locate the 'invisible' island for sometime now - perhaps since the very first purge (although perhaps they don't even know about the purge and have simply been cut off from all island communication since Ben/Richard too over?). Eitherway, I think they're a generation of off-island (perhaps representatives of) the Dharma/Widmore people (scientists/business people/innocents who think they're fighting the greater good). I take Ben for his word when he says "they're the bad guys" - although I'm not certain that we'll see signs of that immediately - for example I don't think they'll start bombing/raiding the island as soon as they touch base..I think we'll slowly begin to see the shades of their agenda - which will perhaps be understandable on some level..or as ambigious as the Others first were..not sure yet.

As you mentioned, I think that part of their agenda will be to undo the past mistakes of Dharma (i'm pretty sure that it's something to do with time..or perhaps it's something less fantastical?..or multi-layered?). Another possibility is they're trying to effect an end..perhaps they want to clense the world and start over..perhaps they wish to cut and splice history (are the cut/spliced Dharma films a clue?) and re-shape the world? I think that this would be the most interesting route to take, although I also suspect that they may simply want to plunder the island for all of it's 'properties'..

One thing which intrigues me is how Ben knows they're "the bad guys"? Unless Jacob has told him..I'm thinking that Benjamin has either:

A. Lived this life before..and history is repeating - "If you make that call then every living thing on this island will die..it's the beggining of the end!!"

or

B. Benjamin has flashes too (and I'm not talking about hot-flashes)

I'll also be interested to see what's posted here in relation to my Island Civilisation Thread where i'm looking more at the potential past groups on the island. Will be interesting to build upon both threads over time.

It's highly unlikely there's any more on-island groups that we don't know about yet.
So, the new group of S4 will probably be from off-island, likely the "freighterites" as KoR calls them.

But then again, they could always expand the backstory of the pre-dharma island inhabitants. By bringing them in further to the mainstream mythology of the show they could be considered another key 'group.'
This would mean also that we would get an explanation for The Statue seen at the end of S2 and The Ruins seen in S3 (plus Richard mentioned going to "the temple.")

True, I did hold out hope of there being "Other-Others", but that idea now looks dead. Although the teddy-bear dragging kids and the potential of there still being pockets of on-island Dharma strong-holds, does leave that door slightly open. I guess there term 'Others' really is relative.

The idea of currently off-island 'freigtherites' (Dharma/Widmore..maybe even Hanso..and perhaps a 'Team-Jack', in light of the FF) is more likely to be the next group to enter our conciousness.

Yes, I agree - they could delve into the ancient civilsation of the island and to offer some more padding to the current day island story - as you say, perhaps we'll find out more about the Black Rockers, Alpert and Jacob? I mean, how old is Alpert - he may have been around since the early days of the Black Rock (perhaps a member, considering the 'pirate' garments he was wearing on the day Ben first met him).

Oh and I agree, we could well find out more about the Four Toed Statue, which I believe pre-dates the Black Rock (1800?)..and the Temple..which is one of the most intriguing mentions from the backend of S3.

I was watching the Special Features on S3 DVDs and according to the actor playing Tom says that we'll want the Others back when we see whose coming next....

I really need to get Sky. I want to see who they are!

Yeah, I have to agree with him - not that I know, but I've long thought that the Others were 'the good guys' in relation to the island.

Funny thing is Minkowski sounded so friendly on the phone!
