The Journey Begins
|
i would like to adress this subject as my second theory on this site. first off i'd like to say that i believe the airplanes we saw in Juliet's flashback were decoys for sure (in my opinion.) i believe that there may be another under water stations sort of like TLG with a moonpool. now these submarines have never made a journey to anywhere in the world i believe. i think people somehow teleport to the underwater station then take the sub to main ground. or maybe TLG is used to teleport. maybe not. when richard said the last part would be a little bumpy maybe he was lying and it was reversed (you teleport first) or the last sub ride was bumpy from the underwater station because it was the only sub ride. maybe you cant be concious when teleporting. it's a stretch but i don't thnk it's the sub and it can't be anything else because everything else crashes when it gets to the island. make any sense?

teleporting... that's a bit far-fetched isn't it? *puts golden purple llama baby back in its box*
Anyway, maybe it's just things above water that crash, maybe things under the water can penetrate their defences Hence why the submarine can get in. But then why wouldn't other people have tried coming in with submarines? Maybe they don't know about this way... ![]()

Teleporting is a bit much
but I wouldn't be surprised if there was another island where Ben and co arrive at before getting the sub to the island because : - a ) a sub is less like to crash on the island like the plane did and Danielles boat apparently did and like Naomi's helicopter did b ) a sub is less easy to detect for anyone who may have the island under surveilance |

well I don't think blocking signals is its purpose
I think it has some other purpose (no idea what) and it just so happens they can block signals down there as well. Although saying that seeing as how it is now flooded it probably won't be returning. |

I agree that it's unlikely to be teleportation - although in saying that I personally believe in Ben's "magic box" metaphor, which is perhaps akin to having ones 'prayers' (or wishes) answered/materialised by the mechanics of fate and coincidence.
But yes, it's still an interesting topic - personally I believe that the sub is only part of the journey. As EC mentioned, I believe that they take the private jet to a secret/private outpost where they then board the sub (or vice versa) to take the island - perhaps along "bearing 325"? It's also worth considering what the Hydra island runway was for (one which they got Sawyer and Kate to help out with)..a jet perhaps? I do believe that TLG Hatch could have another purpose (Mikhail hinted that Juliet might have told the Losties more..although this probably alluded to something apart from TLG?), but I do believe that it's primary objective is/was to block signals to and from the island. Although I do think that we can also interpret more from the name of The Looking Glass - an Alice in Wonderland type portal where everything is backwards..does this allude metaphorically to the episode..to this point in the journey..or to the hatch itself? ![]()

the runway could also have just been busy work for sawyer and kate. why do you think its a runaway? juliet: we're building a runway. sawyer: a runway for what? juliet: for the aliens. she was probably joking. and does anyone think the island is the box? the metaphor is the island? and remember the guy in the pshycwart who gave hurley the numbers...he said Hurley "opened the box." maybe Hurleys uh opened the island? the island brings people whatever they want? maybe?

Or, as you suggested, perhaps the Others just changed their plans? Although Juliet's mention of it in the finale would suggest that it is still in the 'mix' for a later date? Perhaps involving Naomi's people? Quote:
Juliet also mentioned to Pickett that "the schedules been moved up" - not sure whether she was referring to the runway or 'convincing' Jack to the do operation via Kate.. ![]() Yeah, it seemed like she was joking about the aliens..rather like Sawyer's "aliens" reference to the Others back in the season 2 finale..hey, maybe Juliet was listening..or that spy (the one that escaped) reported back what he had jested about them, lol ![]() Yeah, personally I believe the 'magic box' to be the island..or rathers a persons 'connection' (communion) with the island. We've seen it conjure up so many things on a subconscious level (visions/dreams etc) that it seems likely that the island itself is a hub which is connnected to the mechanism of fate and coincidence. Which is rather akin to prayer, I think. Yeah, that's very possible..Lenny's mention of 'the box' could well be forshadowing for future events..I would even go so far as to suggest that Sam Toomy's personal 'luck' was tvery much connted to the island's 'box'..as Hurley once (still?) believed
