The Journey Begins
|
iv been thinking that this story of Lost has a lot of connections to the Bible and it is going in chronological (somewhat). this theory isnt too well thought out. first off there is adam and eve found on the fourth episode. this also starts the good vs evil debate with the black and white stones. then there is the black rock. maybe the island flooded and when it came back up the boat was there in the water above it. sorta like a Noah's Ark. Jacob in the Bible-his descendants lived in Egypt. Say the island resembles Egypt and all the people who were on the plane are Jacob on the islands desendants. (clue with Jck and Claire possibly.) maybe the smoke monster was the serpent for adam and eve and now it is the devil. OR it is God because when Eko refused-sorry mr eko-to repent the monster killed him. some people put up barriers to block out God like the barracks? maybe the dharma iniative had forgotten about God or the smoke monster like the israelites when they were under the pharoahs control so they put up the barracks because they thought the monster could bring them nothing but grief which leads me to believe they had encountered smokey before and didnt like him or didnt believe enough so they tried to keep him out. then what happens next? Moses leads the Isrealites out of Egypt (Egypt right?) which i believe could be the island sorta (resembling it not literally Egypt. oh and doesnt Egypt have ruins maybe temples? statues........4 toes. smokey before he is a serpent if he was the devil? God with adam and eve because now we dont see him but they did? God led the isrealietes as a pillar of smoke as well...and fire. and Jock led his people out of the camp to try and get rescued....i really get carried away on these theories. thanks if you read this whole thing. it looks just like rembling thougts. it pretty much is. leave comments on what you think. agree? disagree? peace out.

Hey Steve108, welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing your thoughts
![]() You've done a good job of piecing together some strong themes and parallels - I certainly agree that LOST borrows much from the Bible and other religious and cultural text. Whilst I don't believe that the writers are recycling the Bible, it could definetely be argued that elements and themes from the Bible have been mirrored (either consciously or subconsciosly by the creators) - indeed, they kinda acknowledged this when they had Naomi compare Jack to Moses! I love how self aware those guys are. So I like what you've done and there is a lot of substance in what you say - I am particularly interested in the Egypt stuff - didn't the hatch countdown have glyfs which translated to "Underworld" or something akin? This and the temple (ruins?) - as you mentioned - can possibly give us an insight into the thinking of the writers - it certainly appears that they want us to look into these old texts and historical/mythological themes and garnish some awareness from that. I think that LOST could end up being a modern day Bible, if you will. I believe that not only could LOST be a game (as some people have suggested), but that it could also be a retelling, a re-imagining of a bible-like story. As you said, LOST has so many Bible themes..could we have a situation where time has not only brought forward old mimics of history..or is this part of our experience, part of a clever narrative which enables us as humans to connect wand invest in such powerful themes? Excellent post Steve, i'll add more structured thoughts soon ![]()

I've thought about this as well... such as Smokey being the angel of death "he killed Eko, the first born" And after he met Locke, Locke was covered in blood... placing blood over a doorway would make the angel pass over you.
Note, this is a stretch, but I honestly just thought of it. :P

Funny, LOST is often compared to or references books..I wonder whether LOST will end with someone closing the book of LOST *slightly random thought there*

![]() True, though the mind boggles at how they'll find an all encompassing resolution ![]() Knowing those guys they'll probably think of something awesome..something to tie together all of these themes on a human level, perhaps.
