Ben: Leader of the Losties?

When Locke skulked off into the jungle after turning up the opportunity to shot Jack, it could be argued that he was on his way to seek council with Jacob..or perhaps the rest of the Others who are presumably at the Temple. I reckon that with Ben currently tied to a tree and the freighter peeps coming, this could well be Locke's moment to rise to the role of leader of the Others.

Similarly, we can pretty much guess that the freighter peeps wont be the 'salvation' Jack and the Losties believe them to be - let's face it, they haven't been looking for the island in order to plant tulips have they? One could argue that Ben, given his knowledge and experience of the island and the people on the ship, could well be elevated to leader of the Losties.

Seems unlikely? Personally I don't think this is that impossible..afterall Jack and Kate might strike a deal to get themselves off the island..perhaps with Sawyer and Claire (i'll expand if I need to)..but from what we saw in the forward-flash, it's likely that not all of the Losties made it off the island..hence Jack's guilt and desire to return.

Therefore, with Jack and Kate gone..or in the process (throught the season) of making a deal to go 'home', the losties would lack leadership - no Locke (with the Others), no Jack, no Kate and possibly, no Saywer (if that's him in the coffin). This would conceivably mean that the losties would look to Ben for leadership. Afterall, they might all have a common enemy.

Of course it might not quite happen as 'linear' as this, but I think there's a chance that somehow the Losties will 'accept' Ben as their leader.

I hope not I agree with you that Locke may arise to be leader of the others, it wouldn't surprise me, but I sure hope Ben doesn't become our lostie leader Your theory/speculation is good though, I could see it happening some time down the line. I ask the losties to remember what the others have done in the past and for them to cope without Ben

May I ask why with Sawyer and Claire please? Sorry if it's an obvious reason, I wouldn't be able to work out why you see!

Thanks, yeah I think it will take some adjusting for the losties/lostie fans to take Ben to their hearts..and of course it might not happen, I just think that it has a high chance of happening.

I think that the losties will 'need' Ben..esp if the folks on the boat are as bad as Locke thinks and if Locke, Jack, kate etc are on thier own missions, so to speak.

Ben could well be the saviur of the losties!

Sure, the reason why I would assume that Sawyer and Claire would make it off the island is because there's a fair chance that Sawyer is the one in the coffin - he's a con man and is used to using other aliases. Tho he isn't my 'favourite' to be in the coffin, there's a high chance that it could we be him - also due to the way Kate reacted when Jack asked her why she didn't go to the funeral.

As for Claire, well, Des told Charlie that if he did as he said (press the button etc) then Claire/Aaron would leave in a helicopter - seeing as Charlie did do as Desmond's flashes told him (one would assume), then it's logical to think that Claire makes it off the island.

Of course all of the above is still open to much speculation and I realise that whatever happens it wont be as 'linear' or as straight forward as that, but that's my thinking on the issue - which I myself could also pick apart, since I think there's alot more to this getting off the island thing than it seems.

Cheers for that Very interesting and helpful! I forgot about the coffin thing and I also forgot that Claire should now be allowed of the island!

To be honest, I don't like the idea of anyone leaving the island one bit. I want them to stay! Hopefully the flashforward we saw in the series 3 finale is way onwards at the end of the 6th series or something.

I've just read up on TTLG and I can now see where your coming from. Locke, Jack and Kate could be away or what have you - leaving Ben left in a bloody (literal) state with the losties! Hopefully they'll leave him that way and not turn to him for leadership :P I know I'm blocking out the idea of him becoming a leader to our losties slightly - but I'm just hoping it's not going to be on the cards! And it wouldn't seem right...

Yeah the strange thing is that Des said Claire would be 'rescued' by Helicopter, though I guess since Naomi arrived that Helicopter, they have more stationed onboard the freighter. But then does this mean the freighter wont arrive immediately.. In which scenario would she board the helicopter in order to board the frieghter? Hmm..

I think that the flash-forward will be greatly touched upon in S4, which would mean that what we saw isn't necessarily the ending (ie the 6th season). I think it would make sense for them to address this early, otherwise things/actors etc could change by the time they reach S6, consequently that flash-forward would become redundant. I think that S4 will be a mixture of 'flash-forwards' and 'current' island story, which a few flashbacks thrown in for good measure.

lol, I see where you're coming from..Ben hasn't got a vast amount of supporters, tho I think his ranks will have grown by this time next year

I think that with the nature of things and the duality of the show, I think this is a near certainty. Of course (if this does happen in some guise) he will also be a reluctant leader Brave brave Ben

I never really thought about there being more flash forwards to come, that'd be very exciting and fresh. A good idea aswell, as so many of the flashbacks have started to become tiresome and repetitive now - it'd be hard to make more.

Pretty much bang on as old theories go..

as I said in the original post, it's not quite as linear as I speculated but Ben is certainly the leader of the Losties a season later: Michael, Sayid, Locke, possibly Sun..even Kate..All working for and with Ben, either on the island on the freighter or in the flash-forwards.

Tbh i'm not surprised..the only surprising thing was that so many thought it inconceivable.
