Default On-island flashforwards

I began to think about the possiblity of ON-island flashforwards and wondered whether this was likely? I think it would be a nice twist and something we would not see coming. I think we are assuming the next flashforward will be OFF the island but that is just lazy thinking.

As usual we would be led to believe it is an ordinary island scene and then suddenly we are exposed to a shocking revelation [via a camera shot] that depicts we have fast forwarded 6 months [for example] on the island.

Of course it would have to be done in such a way that does not spoil the on-island action, much in the same way the Jack and Kate flashforward did. By this I am referring to the fact that while they gave away a big part of the plot, not only was it [more than likely] not the VERY end of Lost but we do not know the "why, what and how".

We already had that, just in a small way, when Locke burns Sawyers file in "The Brigg".

But I know what you mean, that scene didn't end with a shock, more with a question mark as to who is in that cell, and then the rest of the episode was actually told in flashback.

I can imagine a whole episode being dedicated to a man who crash lands on an Island and comes across a ditty old man, only for, in a super I-didn't-see-that-coming twist, for the the man who crashed on the Island to be Walt and the ditty old man being Locke!

It would have to be something like that, with little-to-no current on-island characters in it, to have it's appeal (and not spoil too much). I think we'd all agree that Locke would probably be the last person to leave the Island (perhaps, only Ben rivaling his passion), so his staying on the Island wouldn't be that much of a shock

You have completely lost me there. That episode involved an island flashback where Locke was accepted into the Others' society and eventually shunned by Ben for not killing Cooper. And which "cell" are you referring to?

I think my numeric friend is referring to the 'cell' (not sure if it was?) on the Black Rock where Sawyer eventually kills Anthony Cooper - if I remember correctly, the episode opens with Cooper already in the 'cell' (though, we don't know it's him, we jut hear noises?), we then go back to 'before' that (hence the mini flash forward) and see the story unfold...

That is a brilliant idea for a FF, that would really blow my mind! I like the Walt idea too because of the bond they had in Season 1. I think that would be such a unique episode. I loved the FF in Season 3, just knowing we were in the future and the island events were long gone. It just had a sad feel to it, most likely because of the state Jack was in though.

I think a FF as you described would be very powerful TV. Just to know that ONLY Locke remained on the island, everyone else was long gone and everything that happened had come to a conclusion - and all the loose ends on the island were tied up.

Yes, I think such a FF would not spoil anything except for the fact Locke does not get bumped off the show. It leaves alot to be told in Seasons 4-6 if the flashforward is shown soon, however it would be great if this episode was the final ever scene of Lost.

What if Walt does NOT find out who the man is, they have a conversation and Locke says something powerful and walks off. Perhaps Locke might say "this was meant to happen" in a sarcastic tone or "this was my Destiny". It could be so amazing and a perfect end to the show. It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.

Perhaps the way they could shoot this scene is to go from a flashback to a flashforward, that way it would be even more unexpected.

But are you sure it was a FF? I say this because I thought the whole episode [bar the beginning] was a flashback. So in essence the beginning was not a FF.

Thanks, I'm a huge fan of twists in general, so I always try and incorporate them into any 'ideas' I have, especially creative ones...

I think another great thing about this idea is, as you say, it has a conclusive feel to it without giving away anything about the how each of the characters stories' finished.

Oh, I hadn't really considered it as a potential final scene of the show - but I agree (if I do say so myself) it would be a good ending to the show; mixing finality with a little mystery, leaving things unanswered...

Nice idea, I think the audience would have to find out eventually though, even if it's not obvious until the last frame of the last scene, but I like the idea that (adult) Walt is left in the dark - to search for his own destiny

Maybe (the yet to be known) Locke could say something like "you were brought to this Island for a reason, Walt. You just don't know what it is yet..."

Tomato, Tomarrrto...

Isn't it all about perspective though? You could, theoretically, say that all of the on-Island events have been flashbacks - and the Kate/Jack future scene was the first true 'present day' scene...

In fact, I had an idea that season 4 would be flipped on it's head - with the Island acting as flashbacks to (the now present) Kate/Jack events... But I quickly thought that idea to be a bad one.

No problem at all. It is not something I would have come up with. It is very unique.

Precisely. We all know that Locke is most likely NOT going to get killed, atleast not until the very end - if then. What is also good is that by seeing Future Locke, we know nothing about what happened on the island - it gives nothing away.

I think it would be the perfect ending - if there is indeed one. Perhaps we are shown the Survivors all getting rescued with Locke remaining behind. We are then flashed forward to Future Locke encountering a whole new batch of plane crash survivors. One thing is for sure, imo, Lost will end with a BIG twist.

I think we as the audience would "clock on" that it is Locke and so would Walt perhaps. That is a great idea. That Walt returns or is "brought back" to the island by Fate.

That line by Locke would also end the show perfectly imo. It would tell us [and Walt] that the old man is Locke, and of course Walt's Lost journey would be just beginning. Perhaps he was NOT meant to leave the island in Season 2.

Well the term flashback has been used by the producers [I believe] and the Survivors' flashbacks have affected their actions on the island. I think the on-island action is the present. I definitely think The Brigg episode did not have a FF. I cannot recall but didn't that episode flash back and forth to the past, or was the remainer of the episode a flashback?

I think that idea has issues because the island flashbacks [as you call them] would not be affecting the off-island action. While the idea relies on there being lots of off-island action. I suppose it actually IS possible.

We could be shown what we think is a flashback off the island, and from here we are then shown a Survivor having a flashback to the island revealing the on-island action was indeed the past. I think this would be a worthwhile discussion
