I'm not judging the episode, I'm talking about the characters and the abrupt way they were introduced - pretty much like the abrupt way Shannon was killed.

Perhaps people haven't answered your question because they don't know the answer!

The reason behind it was merely ratings and bad writing. They wanted to kill someone off and chose Boone. With Boone gone, the decision was made at the end of season 1 to kill off Shannon too (lazy plotting - better to make Shannon go missing instead or kidnapped).

Maggie then started looking for work which is why her exit was known before she left. The other actors all got pay risers but she didn't so in the end after negoiations she got paid for the whole of season 2 instead.

There are rumours she had a fall out with Darlton. Not sure if this is true or not but Naveen Andrews expressed his disapontment over the decision as did JJ Abrams himself. He did not want Shannon to die. Thats why I think this rumour is false as she came back in Expose which shows no ill feelings.

She is still best friends with Emilie De Ravin and Yessica Holloway. She has also done conventions with Jorge, Ian, Terry and Sam Anderson.
