I think we're going to have to agree to disagree. I have never been so animated - and so excited - while watching a TV show. The closest I can compare it to is - when I was footy mad - watching Newcastle in a Cup final (it happens, occasionally :P) or any other such important football game (note: I ain't that big on footy now, but the point still stands...)

I think it's ending puts it at the bottom.
You're confusing me a tad. You say the ending was perfect but then continue to say that the ending puts it at the bottom of the 3 finales? We'll probably have to agree to disagree here, too - when compared to the other 2 finales (both good in their own right) I just don't think they carried as much action, suspense or emotion as Exodus. I do think season 3's final scene trumps season 1's. But as an episode 'whole', season 1's was excellent... Maybe it was the buzz for me - which has certainly diminished somewhat since season 1 ended - that made Exodus so memorable for myself. I still love Lost, but it's familiar now, and doesn't have that same hold it once did. (Like the exciting spark has disappeared in a relationship - but, although sad, I'm left with memories and unquestioned love) If that makes any sense at all I will be surprised...

They clearly suffered from tunnel vision at the time. I would hazard a guess and say the producers had Dharma in the planned scripts from the very beginning.

I agree, with this wait I am enjoying savoring a show that will be gone in a few years - while the theorising never gets old.
Perhaps, I suppose we'll never know (unless they admitted it!) I just feel that when you spend, what, half a season trying to get into a hatch - to find out there's another entrance around the corner is a bit laughable...

I agree with you about Dharma, it was just a bit of a curve ball, is all. My gut says they had the idea down all a long - what with the whole show seemingly interwoven with them. I suppose it's a bit like George Lucas knowing all along that Star Wars isn't about Luke but actually Vader... Which the newer films obviously point to (again, ignore me if you have no idea what I'm talking about lol..)

I am not sure why I had such BIG expectations but I would like to put it down to my love for Lost. Had I have been sitting there not expecting anything it would have signalled me not being bothered about the show. I cannot remember feeling the way you did during the Finale but Lost kept me glued every week. I cannot remember being SO into a TV show and the Finale was no different.

It had me VERY "into it" because it was on the edge of your seat stuff - only problem is many people probably fell off their seat in bewilderness. So I can relate to an extent because it was gripping stuff.

I meant it was the best ending they could have done for THIS particular Finale because I feel any other ending would not have been "suitable". The "moving down the hatch" of the camera was a great ending for Season 1 [excluding my first viewing of course] and I cannot think of any alternative ending except my idea eariler about seeing Desmond to end it.

But yes I feel Season 2's Finale - especially the Desmond and Locke stuff- was much better then Season 1's. While Season 3's Finale was brilliant. I will agree that the Season 1 Finale had ALOT of good qualities. Is it possible you liked Season 1 so much because you did not know what was coming? By that I mean with Season 2 and 3 you knew what to expect but Season 1's Finale had that "unknown" about it.

Well ironically enough Lost and Valentines Day are both in February so there is hope for you yet. Reignite that spark. But seriously I think nostalgia may be the reason for your love for Exodus - which is a good thing. Season 1 is nostalgic for me also because it takes me back in time - as do all 3 Seasons actually. Exodus was the first Finale so I think many hold it dear.

I always feel watching a show week by week is more powerful than buying a DVD box set and watching them all in one go within a few days/weeks. I think I am beginning to ramble now.

Perhaps they have in a DVD Commentary of interview somewhere. We were never really shown exactly WHERE the backdoor entrance in relation to the front were we? Of course we saw the backdoor entrace but how far away was it to the front? I think it is completely plausible it was not found but amusing all the same.

If you consider the fact that something worthwhile HAD to be in the hatch and the fact that Dharma is such a big part of Lost, I find it hard to believe it was one of MANY ideas that could have been used. I am not a fan of Star Wars unfortunately. I take it fans believed for a long time it was about Luke?

Will&Grace:

Jack: Dating her would be like watching Lost, once you know whats in the hatch things get veryy boring.

Silly jokes aside, I loved the ending, but I loved more the announcers extra part. Genious on channel 4s part, they should rightfully have that show!!

Crude though funny joke Toby, however some would argue against things becoming boring after entering the Swan.

I felt some calmness knowing that Channel 4 were also annoyed by the ending and sympathised with the fans. Are you referring to the announcement that followed the end titles?

I would strongly disagree with you. It was one of the best ending scenes I've ever seen. Maybe it is because I'm way too much into LOST, I don't know, but it got me all chilled - music, hatch, camera, broken ladder... Perfect!

No! It would have revealed too much!
At the end of season one they give you multiple possibilities - it is
abandoned, it is dangerous, it is contagious, it is hostile... If there was Desmond it would have been just... Disappointing! Well for me.

Omg I loved that ending! I even recorded the ending on my phone (sad I know yes, it was before the DVDs though and sky+) so I could watch it again and again. It was a great cliff hanger and I may have been annoyed that we didnt see anymore and frustrated that we'd have to wait so long for s2 but I loved it because it was so simple in a sense and just so well done

Ahhh the good old days when you could watch Lost in your own room on Channel 4 when other people couldnt get involved or say i'm just changing the channel for a minute!

It was a great Ending but kind of predicatble it wasn't like there was any other option the hatch had to go underground didnt it!

I agree but the way the camera pulled down the hatch leaving Locke and Jack at the top with the music, it was just great
