What if the vision Locke had has been TOTALLY interpreted wrong here? We now presume that it was always meant for Boone to go up, but what if we're wrong (noo). What if 'the island' removed Lockes ability to walk, not to stop him from climbing, but to test him? Locke has lived by the motto 'don't tell me what I can't do' pretty much ever since he lost the use of his legs (presumably). The Walkabout is a prime example of this; Locke wanted to do this even though he couldn't walk. What if the island was giving Locke this exact chance, to complete his destiny, by remove his ability to walk..? I put it to you (the jury lol) that if Locke had managed to climb the plane (or maybe just the mountain area next to it) the plane would not have fell and Locke would have seen the pearl (and thusly, completing his destiny) however, after wrongly interpreting the dream and losing the ability to walk as a sign that Boone must go up, he was thusly 'punished' - covering the pearl/his destiny and killing his (closest?) friend, Boone... It doesn't really change much, per-se but it does possibly explain why everything that happened (being conned by the Swan) actually happened. Perhaps it was one big 'punishment' bestowed on Locke for wrongly interpreting this whole sequence of events. Or, alternatively, not ![]()

But how was Locke supposed to interpret the dream though, I'm confused. Are you saying he was supposed to realise Boone was definitely going to get hurt and so nobody should've gone up into the plane. I.e. they were supposed to simply climb the mountain and see the "?" of circle? I'm not sure why the island took away the use of his legs if it wanted him to find the Pearl [or Observation hatch]. I think there are several forces at work here, one that wanted him to find the Pearl/Observation hatch and one that didn't want him to. |

As with the beauty of lost, it would be impossible to see which 'force' is good and which is evil, even though we've probably seen both at work on numerous occasions! By the way, I have a tendency to strongly argue my case even when I don't necessarily believe it! (like this topic) - However I do think there are 2 'entities' - perhaps someone/thing is playing Smokey - perhaps there are two 'users' ![]()

I guess had Locke seen the Pearl, he wouldn't have followed the whole-button pushing thing. So it seems one force has beaten the other in getting Locke to go into the Swan. I'm guessing the force that created Locke's Teresa-Boone dream was the force that wanted Locke to go in the Pearl first... Hmmm it may not even be good and evil,...it may just be two forces that have needs and objectives. But it still could be good and evil. Hmmm, well the BS does seem to be rather fluctuated in terms of it's decisions which could mean a human being is controlling it, hence why the BS's decisions are often unexplainable and not always constant, if you know what I mean. The human being is having changes of heart and changes his/her plan in terms of what he/she wants the BS to accomplish. |
