Sayid was being an asshole at the time this thread was created, that's all.

I don't want to smack Sayid. Even Sayid's one-time arch enemy (Sawyer) has admitted that Sayid is a handy man to have along in a fight!

Yeah he has tortured people which isn't nice but Sayid isn't a sociopath. He knows what he did was wrong and isn't proud of it. However torture like any other skill such as carpentry, plumbing etc won't be forgotten in a hurry! There is always going to be some jerk standing in your way and then that skill will come in handy and you'd always be sorely tempted to use it.

Christian Shepherd faced disciplinary action over being drunk during an operation. If Christian was still alive on the island would he refuse to treat someone just because he'd been disciplined? I think not.

I also feel Sayid and Kate showed more interest and determination in rescuing Jack. Locke always seems too engrossed in the mysteries of the island to the detriment of the welfare of others. This isn't like the Locke who took so much time and trouble to get Charlie off drugs. I liked the Locke who took the trouble to build a cradle for Aaron. That was the Locke I really liked - he seemed to care about people.

Now the fortunes of the island has over ridden everything else in his mind imho. What if all this shenanigans is just two men playing some sort of super duper board game and the Losties and Freighties are just the pieces on the board - would knifing Naomi be so protective and wonderful then?

Locke may not have tortured anyone but he knifed an unarmed woman in the back and even if she wasn't a nice person (which still has to be proved in my opinion) that would be a hard thing for any person to do!

None of the Losties are perfect but if I was building a team I'd want Sayid on my team every time. For survival of the fittest Sayid would win hands down every time. In a combat situation I'd always be worried that Locke might start rolling a joint or tripping out on LSD!

Sayid said he always held The Others rather than Ana Lucia responsible for Shannon's death. Has Sayid forgotten this or does he have another plan up his sleeve? I wouldn't be surprised. Sayid has never been lacking in resourcefulness.

However, is it just me, or does anyone else feel the need to SMACK his smugness? I mean not only does he suspect anyone who dares to breathe (P*ulo apart..sadly), but look what he did to that poor poor woman..and yet despite her immense decency in forgiving him, a few years later when Benry needed a bit of benefit of the doubt, what did Sayid do..he chained him to the guttering of the Swans makeshift prison and crucified him. Blood spilled from the jaws of poor Ben as Sayids boot left perma-marks on his features..but blood wasnt the only thing LOST..nope..on that day Sayid LOST his soul..or what he had left of it <_< ..and to now see him suspecting ANYONE who is unknown to him makes me kinda sick. I know Mikky lied..but heck, so has Danni and so did Sayid (in the flashback), did he not..

It's just a crying shame that Sayid is afforded so much leniency. I 'want' to like the man, really i do..but it's really time someone smacked him one.

Feel the need?
Hell no. Sayid might be the only person I DON'T ever feel the need to smack. He's one of the smartest people in the show, and unlike most of the others, he almost never does stupid things (OK, I'm trying to forget about the plan in season 2 finale... that was due to bad writing ). What's wrong with him suspecting people? Guess what - his suspicions have always proved right. The dark past (and future) of his character makes him one of the more interesting characters on the show.

And why would he need to "set an example", as you say? He wasn't trying to set an example, he's not a teacher in a school, he was a guy fighting for survival (of himself & his fellow castaways). Can you imagine LOST as a show where every character is being incredibly and unrealistically ethical all the time - how boring and annoyingly moralizing would it be?

And come on... how can you not love him when he says "My name is Sayid Jarrah and I'm a torturer" in that sexy accent?
