Default Sayid and loyalty

Sayid. Now theres a character. Beautiful. Underused. But ultimatly I think we will see soo much more of him! Will he be leader? When the need arises I think he can make the right decisions. He will not try to uprise against what other losties do, just do what he thinks is right at the time.

Quote:
As for loyalty, Sayid isnt very loyal in love considering he got with Shannon, knowing that Nadia is still alive
But doesnt he beleive that they will never leave the island? After his Rousseau experience, what hope could he have?

Im sure Nadia would have wanted him to move on Surely?

Sayid Loyal? Sayid is Sayid

Really?

He went against he country to set her free, killed a fellow officer and then shot himself...

And then began his search to find her...

(see my 2 above posts)

I think it's a writing error, why does he think she's dead? He thought she was alive and kicking when he got on the plane...

Toby! We need more Sayid fans over here lol.

And Nadia appears to have moved on - she had settled down, got a job, got a house and if she had wanted to find Sayid she probably could have done.

Default Sayid and loyalty

Sayid's loyalty in love: I think he is a man who loves truly-madly-deeply. However, he is also a pragmatist. I think he was massively influenced by his encounter with Danielle who had clearly been alone a looong time. When he met her, he realised:

1) He was going to spend the rest of his life on the island
2) If he didn't accept that and forge lasting relationships with his fellow losties, he would go mad
3) Shannon was hot, available, just complicated enough to be interesting, and relatively easy

I think he only really fell hard for Shannon just before she was shot, when he realised how truly vulnerable she was.

Sayid and leadership: I think he is happy for someone else to take the role of administrative leader and run the camp on a day-to-day basis. I think he sees him self as chief of security for the losties - and a rather over-zealous one at that.

The raft just set sail?

You can't say poor Nadia though because, if it wasn't for Sayid she would have been executed - and I'm willing to bet that she would have been brutally tortured rather than having food snuck to her.

One day Sayid will prove you wrong - I'm hoping he'll save one of the Others somehow (hopefully not Juliet lol.)
Yes the raft..remember..the one he helped build..the one that Walt burnt..the one that gave them all a glimer of hope way back when in Exodus..

Well Nadia didnt ask him to fall in love with her..she didnt ask him to save her. If memory serves he did it of his own accord. He did it because he was still in love with her..and considering that act of love, he's ended up letting her go rather easily imo ..especially since she's still alive and he knows this.

I doubt it. Sayid has regressed to the point of no return, i fear.

Sayid Loyal? Sayid is Sayid
If this was the case then why has he been the most proactive person in trying to get off the island (Bar Michael)?

I reckon at the time when his Shannon fling was in full swing (and prior to that), he was very determined and dare I say 'hopeful' that they would somehow get off the island, be it by radio transmission, raft sighting or something. Of course now, at this present time, he's rather less hopeful..but thats not really the point, cos im making reference to his mindset before Shannon met her tragic end

Yes, perhaps Nadia would've wanted him to move on..but she probably doesnt know he's alive..and more to the point AP's question was about Sayids loyalty in love..not Nadia's. I just dont think he's that loyal, but hey, we each have varying degrees of Sayid appreciation and opinion

Default Sayid and loyalty

Heres my take on things

Nadia picked on Sayid when they were children

Sayid was supposed to torture her she used their childhood connection to get him to help her by pretending that she picked on him because she liked him

Sayid helped her escape and assumed that she would be captured and killed by someone else

He later finds out that she is alive and that they will send him to her

He has to have flight re-arranged so he can bury his friend

He gets on flight 8-15 which crashes (originally he wasn’t supposed to be on that flight) he might take that as a sign that they weren’t meant to be together (I am just speculating on this one)

He gets captured by Rousseau (at this point there has been no mention of raft so he wouldn’t have know anything about that rescue attempt and therefore at that point didn’t have hope of being saved)

I feel that he decided at that point he may as well carry on believing that Nadia did die as (as someone else mentioned) she hasn’t tried to contact him in all the time he assumed that she was dead and she has probably changed her identity and started a new life for herself and its time he did the same (not necessarily a new identity)

He says to Rousseau
Quote:
The writing on the back of Nadia's photograph. I know what it's like to hold on to someone. I've been holding on for the past 7 years to just a thought, a blind hope that somewhere she's still alive. But the more I hold on, the more I pull away from those around me. The only way out of this, this place, is with their help.
So he knows she is alive but its pointless trying to catch up with her again so is going to pretend that she died seeing as how he had already spent seven years believing that
