Sayid = a hypocrite??

Personally I think that Sayid is being a bit of a hypocrite at the mo...

In TWT [I think], Sayid happily took the gun from Charlie over letting him give it to AL, when Sayid had said that he wanted revenge for Shannon's death...

And then, he finds out that HG is a fraud and goes in there and aims at him. If it hadn't been for AL, HG would almost certainly be dead, thus Sayid would have lost their only source of information about the others.

Now, if I remember rightly, in Exodus, Sayid led Charlie to where Danielle would be with Aaron. Upon opening the case of guns, took one for himself and none for Charlie, saying: "You are emotionally involved", and pointing out that he had killed Ethan, thier only source of info about the others at the time.

So having said all that to Charlie... Sayid, in a situation where he is very much emotionally involoved and angry after Shannon's death, is happy to take guns and fire them at the heads of essential information sources... now isn't that being a bit hypocritical??

Personally, I think that given the amount of feelings Sayid has in this case, the Losties are making a big mistake in letting Sayid speak to Henry... from the amount that he beat Henry and from the fact that he was willing to shoot him at point-blank, I don't think that any amount of interrogating experience can account for the emotions he has, and somebody should notice this and stop him seeing Henry before he kills the best possible link to the others they have had since Ethan

Yes, good points lwl. For my money Sayid is being very hypocritical..but in saying that ive come to expect it from some of the losties. I mean Sayid's mentality is VERY similar to Jack's in this instance...Jack often denounces one thing or action but when it's on his terms then it's ok..because he's Jack and he's in charge [eg all that talk about "not putting guns into untrained hands" and then he goes and dishes guns out to the likes of Michael and (almost) Jin as if they were sweeties ]. The same can be said of Sayid..because he's a soldier he probably feels more justified in handling a gun..and in 'some' respects he's right i suppose because at least he's got training. But on a moral stand point he's very much in the wrong because as you point out, he's emotionally involved and if it wasnt for Ana, then he would have done exactly what Charlie did with Ethan 2 months back..and i remember well how many of us Lost fans were very angry at Charlie for killing their only source of information.

When it comes to the likes of Sayid and Jack..i think a case of 'practice what you preach' should come into play..

Good point about Sayid and Jack being very similar...

I can understand Sayid being granted a bit of trust because he is an ex-soldier/interrogator, but AL is an ex-cop, and therefore will have training in interrogation. And I know that she can be a bit ruthless with guns, but she isn't as emotionally attached as Sayid is, and I think that she is easily trustworthy of keeping HG alive. Her big mistake with a gun was shooting Shannon when she thought she was protecting her group, but Sayid was willing to kill HG out of sheer anger, and he shouldn't be allowed to be locked in a room with him in a state like that.

I was a bit surprised, frankly, at how Charlie didn't notice the similarity between the situation then and his own previous situation and give the gun to AL, someone who is just as capable of handling a gun...

Sayid and Jack are similar in some certain ways, they have both 'lost' people they loved (Jack, IMO has lost to Sawyer to get Kate's affections).

I think Sayid and Ana Lucia have a lot in common, and have been brought together in the fact that Sayid has said he doesn't blame her, he blames 'them'(The Others).

Yes, I agree lwl I do think that Sayid is definatley behaving as a bit of a hyporcite now, and the man has gone way down in my estimation due to his handling of the Henry Gale situation.

I know he's still badly grieving Shannon's loss and understandably needs an outlet for his pain and anger, but torture and point blank execution is going just a bit too far! I think that perhaps someone needs to tell Sayid that he is becoming too emotionally involved in the HG saga (like when Sayid warned Charlie he was becoming too involved) - only I don't think anyone would have the nerve to confront Sayid and tell him to back off a bit. With his state of mind I don't think he'd listen.

I don't think he's thinking of the bigger picture concerning HG, and is more focused on exacting revenge for personal reasons rather than considering that Henry could be a good source of information if he was handled differently.

I totally agree, i think Ana should be charged with watching Henry. She is by far the most suitable person to handle the situation imo!
