Personally I can't see what is wrong with the Others... before S3 I hated them, but now they don't seem so bad after all... coz let's face it, the losties are hardly angels are they...

This is the point i've been trying to make for months..if not years by the time S4 rolls around.

There are no Others..only people on different sides of the coin..people who have gone through different experiences and down different paths..
Yet they want to call us hostiles and 'Others'..so be it..cos when Minkowski comes they too will be 'Others'..

Yea I don't get the whole Others V Losties argument either. If I had to choose based on likeability, I'd go for the Losties ... but how boring would the show be without the Others. And I'd say the bad things both camps have done have probably cancelled each other out by now. Why can't people just accept that the two camps are pretty similar?

Um, I'm fairly sure no-one really wants the Others excised from the show, which would then be fairly swiftly cancelled on the grounds that it didn't have a plot anymore....

I've a notion season 4's going to open up the 'groups' notion completely, to be honest. I think it's still more or less valid while there are a number of people working as part of a hierarchy, towards a single aim and with a fairly united ethic, but the emergence of factions within the Others (Ben versus mostly everyone else?) and Locke's (and even Jack's in his flashforward) now sharing Ben's goal but not necessarily his methods suggests an imminent breakdown of the boundaries.

EDIT. And actually there are several people who slip outside those boundaries right now. What about kidnappees like Cindy who are apparently contentedly with the Others' main group but didn't come to it of their own free will? How many of the 'Others' are made up of similar people? What about Juliet, Alex and Karl, who've all broken ranks (and Locke's apparently broken ranks with the Losties)? What about Juliet even before she broke ranks - a press-ganged Other who didn't really want to be there. Was she ever 'an Other'? Other and Losties is still, at this moment, a useful if imperfect way of talking about the plane crash survivors who want to escape the island and the group of people who follow Ben's orders, but I think season 4's going to challenge our ability to easily use those terms, certainly.

(I do wish the Others would give themselves a real name though - Other is still just Rousseau's term for people she doesn't know.)

We use the term Others because that was what Danielle, and subsequently the Losties, called them as they were the other people on the island. We use the term Hostiles because that's how Kelvin referred to them. We don't do it to knock Ben and co but that's how they are referred to. You yourself have chosen to claim you are part of Team Other and now you say there are none? I mean you still call Losties, Losties; what's the difference? It's how we've come to identify them.

By the way that Kanye West song is terrible

Also on this entire front, I've always said I'm not pro-Losties and I'm not anti-Other. I'm not anti-Lostie or pro-Other either. I don't do things by groups, I do them by individual characters. I don't knock the Others courses of action but I do disagree heavily with what Ben claims and what he does. It's not anti-Other, it's anti-Ben The same as when I defend Sawyer or Jules (), I'm not pro-Lostie, I'm pro-Sawyer/Jules in that case.

The poor Others have suffered enough as it is, so they can't all be killed off! Poor Ben has just suffered yet another beating thanks to Jack, who once again has listened only to himself and has just had a nice chat to who knows on the sat phone, and I bet it's only a matter of time before Richard and co. get picked off one by one in the jungle...

But at the very least Ben has to stick around, because the show just wouldn't be the same now without him. I'm hoping that Ben will eventually win over the Losties and then they'll all realise the error of their ways in accepting Jack as leader, and will finally get rid of him. I mean it's really no choice about choosing Ben or Jack to follow as your leader, is it?!

You are quite right in the quotes you use however actions are stronger then words friend. The others KIDNAP babies, BRAINWASH people against their will, PURGE the entire island when it suits them and bury them in a ditch.

The poor losties are trying to survive. Its best to go down fighting IMO. I agree that both parties will have to merge soon. Oh I cannot wait to see the irony in seeing Ben fighting with those he thought were not good enough for Jacob's list.
