If Ethan had Claire and Charlie captive, what did he do with Claire while he was alledgedly hanging Charlie from the tree? Even if he tied her up she'd have been aware of it....you'd think that might have come up in the conversation somewhere along the line......

No, I do actually believe that Ethan was the one that strung up Charlie and left him for dead. Even though I am still open to the possibility of Ethan having help...like Claire

I like(d) Ethan as well, but I just can't make myself believe he didn't hang Charlie... after kidnapping him.

I just wonder how he managed to get Charlie up in the tree while having Claire to deal with. Maybe he drugged Claire straight away...even though my favourite theory is that Claire gave him a helping hand, and subsequent scenes of Claire being all intimate with Charlie is just her guilty conscience at work!

That's the thing that's always bothered me - how did Ethan get Charlie up there with Claire in tow? It's what gives weight to the theory that Ethan had some help in the whole thing.

Exactly. I mean, in order to find someone guilty don't you have to eliminate all reasonable doubt. Really we don't know what happened. Ethan could have knocked Charlie out in order to get away with Claire and anyone could have come along and thought 'what a fantastic little opportunity to get shot of the annoying little english twerp'. That person could have hung Charlie and poor Ethan is getting all the blame. Now, I'm not saying that's what happened...but it could have. There's enough reasonable doubt there to get Ethan aquitted for sure.

Why is it hard to conceive that he met with some more others and got them to take Claire back first. Surely that's what he did right after Charlie and Claire saw him just then. I mean there's no way he could have forced Charlie and Claire through the jungle on his own. Even with his incredible strength.

For me, how he hung Charlie has never been a mystery.... he wasn't working alone.
