Default Hall of Fame

Hall of What?

Some of you may remember that we used to have a sub forum called ‘The Hall of Fame,’ in which we put threads that were of a very high quality in order for them to be recognised and preserved to allow everyone to enjoy and look back over them in a quick and easy way.

And while we’ve brought back the Chit-Chat sub forum we don’t plan to bring back the Hall of Fame one.

However all those great and memorable threads will still be remembered and praised thanks to the tagging system the forum now has.

Tags you say?

Yes, we’re going to make two tags for Hall of Fame threads:

- HOF Lost

- HOF OT

And as you may have guessed the best Lost threads will be tagged with HOF Lost, and threads from the Off Topic Community forums will be tagged with HOF OT.

Who can tag a thread?

Since the original Hall of Fame worthy threads were chosen and subsequently moved and locked by Staff members, only Staff will tag the threads now. However at present there is no way for Staff to only be allowed to use a tag, meaning that it is possible for anyone to put a HOF tag on a thread. But we ask that you respect our decision and do not tag any thread yourself. I will be regularly checking the HOF threads to see which threads have been blessed with such a tag, and will be keeping a separate list of threads I know have been legitimately chosen. If this tag does get abused then we may just abandon the whole idea yet again but I hope it never resorts to that and people respect it, since the whole idea behind this scheme is to create a collection of threads for you to refer back to when you wish to.

But I really think my ‘omg I just stepped in some gum’ thread has become a hilarious classic that everyone will enjoy reading

If you really believe that a thread has the qualities that make it a Hall of Fame thread then do not tag it, but instead PM me with a direct link to the thread and a few lines of explanation as to why you think it deserves to be a HOF thread and I will read through it and see if it is one or not.

I know this is quite a subjective way of deciding, but if we put each nominated thread to a public vote (something I did briefly consider) then not only will it be a lot of work, but there’s no guarantee everyone will agree one way or the other anyway.

What makes a Hall of Fame thread?

A HOF thread is not simply defined by having a million replies to it or started by your good self. It is not a popularity contest by any means, which means that if it’s a thread containing a nice private joke/conversation/role-play between yourself a friend that gave you the best night of your forum life it will not be included.

A HOF thread is one containing original/interesting/thought provoking/humorous content that is, to put it simply, unique.

It doesn’t have to be many pages long at all and can even be between just two or three people, but the content has to be meaningful and interesting and coherent for anyone to read, which is why private jokes and ongoing silly role play will not be accepted.

A thread can be silly and fun and light hearted and may contain some private jokes to it to qualify for a HOF thread (I can think of a few off the top of my head), such as if a large proportion of forum members have taken part or been referenced or something and that anyone not mentioned can easily read and understand it. Basically for a humorous thread to be included it's got to be good quality and non-discriminative.

As for a more serious OT or Lost discussion thread, one containing a serious argument/disagreement/warning/banning/personal insults/forum rule breaking will not be included, since we want the best threads, not the best of the worst. If it’s a passionate thread containing thought provoking discussion with strong agreements/disagreements but no-one’s been banned as a result then that’s completely fine.

Again I just ask you all to use your common sense as to what you think defines a Hall of Fame thread, and to not hesitate to PM me with any suggestions for one or to ask any questions.

Thanks, Ki.
