This is quite an intriguing one in my book. Did he flee Nigeria? Did he take on his brothers role as a priest? Or was he there for some other reason?

Knowing Lost it won't have been a trivial thing.

Any thoughts?

He was dressed in a suit in TO48D so I'm guessing he was not practicing as a priest, I'm totally clueless as to what Eko was doing in Australia. I do however get the feeling hes not telling us something, maybe whatever business he had in Australia was linked to Hanso?

I think that EKo was still a practising priest but was 'perhaps' also involved in something slightly murkey?..maybe he was led on a trail to the island in the hope fo finding his brother..perhaps the Hanso foundation manipulated him into coming to the island, as I think they were all manipulated in some way.

Yeah I still think that Eko was a practising Priest at the time he was on the plane. Perhaps what he was doing in Australia was linked to the church; like a mission of goodwill or something. However I also think that he wouldn't have been able to give up all of his old habits completly, and his purpose for travelling abroad had a darker twist to it.

Yeah theres always an underlying twist isnt there!

I agree..perhaps he was on a Church related business trip..or something.
