Chapter 7: Coincidence or Fate?

And when he least expected it, he found that someone had found a statue of the Virgin Mary on the island. Was it really possible that the plane his brother was in had crashed not only over the same ocean, but on the same island? He had to see it for himself. And when he did see it, he broke it. He had already desecrated this religious symbol when he had filled it with the drugs eight years ago. He was only finishing the job.Â*Â*

He needed to find out what had happened to his brother. Had he still been alive at the time of the crash? Was there may be a body?Â*Â*Charlie had to take him to the plane, and it could not wait. But on the way something happened.



He met an entity that communicated with him. It showed him images of his path through life, of his many crimes. But it also showed him images of hope, of god, and the cross. It reminded him that he was once a priest and that he had to thank his brother for that salvation.



And when he found the plane, he did find the body of his brother inside. Just like Charlotte Malkin had said he would. And he found his belief in his god again, and he took back the cross from Yemis chest, and gave him a funeral of sorts.



This surely was fate, not coincidence. The events of this day were meaningful, and he decided to try and find that meaning by again becoming the priest that he once was.

Interesting how you mention that the Entity 'communicated' with him - I guess it does really doesn't it. Extraction is a form of communicaion afterall..perhaps the only way one can communicate with ole Smokes.

Yes, i deffo think that his meeting back up with Yemi was fate. Whether this fate was borne out of his own desire, or a higher purpose is still unclear.

Who knows what really happened in this scene, but it wasn't a staring contest I don't think

Since I'm writing the story of Eko from within Eko (if you know what I mean) I chose this interpretation because it suited me. In terms of Lost as a whole my vote is for extraction, too.
