Chapter 6: "Things I need to remember"

Eight years of life as a priest. Eight years of a peaceful existence. It was all wiped away, meaningless now. He had killed again. And so he needed to remind himself that there was a meaning in life, and he made himself a scripture stick.Â*

He wrote the names of chapters of the bible, and favourite phrases too. This was going to save him, he thought. Help to rebuild his belief in himself, that he was still a good man in spite of everything he had once done, and done again.



But it was not to be. For the third time he had soiled a religious symbol with blood, blood that he had spilled. He had attacked three men with his scripture stick. He had used it as a weapon.Â*Â*



But he did not throw it away. He kept it. Maybe he would use it again as a weapon, or maybe not. It was for fate to decide, but for now he had lost his belief in his god.



And he did not clean it. He left it to dry, as witness to his acts of violence, for others to see what he once was and what he had become.

I will finish the series (10 chapters planned in total, writing one more at the moment), but I'm going on vacation in a few days so it might need to wait until the end of July.
