Chapter 5: A vow of silence

Charlotte Malkin had said he would find Yemi again, but right now he could not think about that. He needed to rescue the survivors. He needed to bury the dead.Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*



He lay awake the first night, thinking how similar his story had become to his brothers. That plane had disappeared eight years ago flying from Laos to Sydney. Crashed somewhere over the Pacific. And now he himself had crashed. And as he was thinking this, someone attacked him, and he defended himself as he had done so many times in the past: by taking another mans life.



Eight years ago he had soiled his brothers church with blood. Now he had soiled his shirt – a priests shirt. There was no one to confess, no one to say he was forgiven since it was self defense. So he took a vow of silence, not to speak for 40 days.Â*Â*



And then the island gave him a sign. Or so he thought at first. He found a book. Not just any book, he found a bible. But the bible had been mutilated; someone had cut through the pages and placed a film inside. Where was he? Was this an island in the Pacific, or was it purgatory?



His small group of fellow tail section survivors was getting smaller and smaller by the day. The people in the jungle had come back and taken the children, Nathan disappeared and Goodwin was dead. So far Ana-Lucia had been strong and protected them from danger. With the 40 days over, he could finally help her in their quest to survive.
