Default Chapter 1: The boy they called Mr. Eko

I wrote this to celebrate Eko winning the Character of July 2007 competition

Eko and his brother Yemi lost the birthplace lottery. They grew up in one of the worlds poorest countries, and there was no law and order. They had to steal food to survive.

But probably they did not think about it too much. They were children, they did not know any other life, they enjoyed playing football with their mates just like little boys do everywhere in the world. And when they were naughty, they could always confess in church and they would be forgiven.

Eko was a strong lad, and he rather enjoyed looking after his little brother Yemi. He would protect him from bullying; he made sure no one tackled him unfairly on the pitch. His brother was his best friend, and they would have been quite happy living like that considering the circumstances. But one day the unthinkable happened.

Yemi was asked to kill a man they had both known all their lives. It was every mans biggest nightmare, but they were only boys. No one this young should have to make choices like this: either Yemi would become a murderer. Or Eko would have to protect him in ways previously unimaginable, by becoming a murderer himself. For Eko, this was actually no choice. He knew what he had to do. He was stronger than Yemi. Killing this man would destroy Yemi. Eko knew what was necessary for both of them to survive.

And so the gangsters took him, raised him in their image. Yemi was spared. That was all that mattered on the day his name changed, and he came to be known as Mr Eko.

Glad you liked it, guys :P

I wanted to call it "Chapter 1: The boy they called Mr. Eko" but I'm not sure I can write the other chapters, so...

Loved it! If he had not of been killed, he would probably be my favourite character now ( with Charlie dead too, its down to Desmundo! )

Maybe you could create the future chapters, and draw them?

Poor Eko... hard to believe he is dead.
Hopefully he'll pull a Boone and show up again.

That was really good 108! Eko and Yemi did have it tough growing up, and it does say a lot about Eko's character that he was always looking out for his brother and sacrificing a lot in order to protect him.

It was fun doing this, so I though why not, I'll write a few more. I skipped Chapter 2 for now

I'm not sure I can write all of it during July though, going on vacation in a few days and when I'm back I'll probably have other things I need to do.
