Robert DeNiro- Truly amazing, often bringing his own unique style to his characters. Simply one of the geratest actors. Just watch 'The Godfather Part 2' or 'Taxi Driver'.
Christopher Walken- Strange because give him a lead role and the movie will flop, give him a supportign role and he'll watlz away with the movie. 'The Deer Hunter' (acting masterclass alngside DeNiro' and 'Pulp Fiction'.
Kevin Spacey- A brilliant actor for small details, he's very hypnotic and it's easy to get draw in by his acting, 'American Beauty' and 'The Usual Suspects'.
Orson Welles- Shakespearen to the end.

ALthough I agree about Robert Deniro. I do think that lately hes another actor that has ruined his great career with crap movies recently basically for the money. He used to be careful choosing his roles but money talks these days. You talkin' to me?

I see what you're saying, though I don't think it's for the money Though I agree his roles haven't been in 'blockbusters' or serious films- he's still been quality in the roles. In my opinion he's showing his versatility - I mean, sure he could be in another “gansta” remake but why should he?

I think he's shown himself to be quality in comedic roles, although I prefer him as he's best known, I can't think of a film I've seen him in that he hasn't done brilliantly, even if I've not liked the film.

And why would he chose crap films for the money, how does that make sense lol

Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro and Samuel L. Jackson all add a touch of class to any film they appear in, no matter how bad the movie may be.

how could i forget to mention anthony hopkins and christian bale? christian bale is SO under rated- i thinks he is an actor to wacth out for. he was amazing in The Machinist and American Physco. and the fact that he can do such different roles e.g. batman, equilibrium, the prestige and loads of other films when he was young. He is BRILLIANT!

I've always really liked Gene Hackman's portrayals... There's just something about him.

Robin Williams... really like him. He has an amazing range.

Predictably, I like De Niro as an actor.

Ben Stiller. I can't remember seeing him in a bad film. More. More!

Will Ferrell.

Philip Glenister - I've only really seen him in Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes (and a bit in Cranford) but he's nailed that role so well I don't need to see any more.

Sean Bean - I'm running out of things to say for my choices, as I really just rate or like them without specific reasons.

Gregory Peck

Meryl Streep

Johnny Depp

Arnie - Not exactly for his acting abilities, but you have to love him.

Possibly Christian Bale after I see more of him.

I'd say Michael Emerson and Terry O'Quinn too, but that would be cheating.

Quote:
Viggo Mortensen (Only he could pull Aragorn off)
I thought Mortensen did a good job of Strider, but he wasn't quite what I imagined when I read the book. Ian Holm Bilbo was so far off the mark compared to what I had in my imagination, that it was quite painful to watch his parts in the film. However, Gollum was exactly as I'd imagined, uncannily so. Gandalf was well cast too.

Went off on a bit of a tangent there.

I'll also give Tom Hanks a mention, Green Mile, Forest Gump, Saving Private Ryan - great films and great performances by Mr Hanks. Very versitile in my opinion and can do both funny and serious in equally great measures!

Scarlett Johansson, firstly the girl is HAWT. Now that's out of my system, Lost in Translation, fantastic film with 2 excellent performances (inc Bill Murry) - but more so Ms Johansson who was fantastic throughout. Looking foward to seeing more of her (she's only a year older than me - 22)

So who are your favorite actors and actresses?
I love Kevin Spacey, too. He was a great villain in Se7en as well.

But, I never understood this - how the hell was his role in Usual Suspects a "supporting" role?! If he was the 'supporting' character, who was the lead?

Why would that be cheating? We're not supposed to name actors from LOST?

Or we're not supposed to name actors that we know more from TV than from feature films? But quite a few actors/actresses had great roles on both film and TV...

I think you're taking my comment a bit seriously. Obviously it's not 'cheating' -- I see very few rules stated -- but I imagine I meant posting on a forum dedicated to a certain show, that you are fond of the best actors on that show, would be a bit redundant.

Some of my favorite actors are:

Viggo Mortenson - the man is phenomenal
Tom Hanks - anyone that can carry a whole movie with just a volleyball as a castmate gets my vote and Forrest Gump - WOW
John Lithgow - he is sooo funny
Ewan McGregor - rocks
Mel Gibson
Harrison Ford
John Cusack
Spongebob and Patrick

As for Actresses my all time favorite actress is Kate Winslet. There is no one better as far as I am concerned. She owns every role she has ever been in and totally becomes that character.
After Kate I would have to say

Jodie Foster - How she does what she does is beyond me. Her role in Silence of the Lambs is one of the greatest ever.

Angelina Jolie - because lets face it the girl can realllyy act and shes gorgeous to boot.
