Not seen the remakes of 'Texas...' but I have the original on DVd and I found it quite over-rated. The film was, more or less, an adult version of Scooby-Doo.

Yeah agreed.

I haven't actually seen the remake of THHE yet, but I turned the original off after 5 mins it was soooooo bad.

Yeah the 50's original was really really bad, and your completely right Ors. The remake is really good though, a genuine horror movie, which is bloody hard to find nowadays. But "TCM The Beginning" made in 2004 was terrible again.

I dont know, with the original you gotta remember the time it came out, people just were not used to it. Like when leatherface smashed that dude over the head, and he started having convulsions, people were outraged.

But yeah, p!ss poor when you compare it to movies like saw.

It was actually released in 1974, J.B., I don't think it was really bad, just over rated as it was dull in places. I would like to see the remake though.

The 70's were a great decades for horror movies! Good ol' Stephen King started writing then, too! Whent eh 70's begin it was ridign ona wave of ground-breaking horror movies and as the 70's devolp the boundaries were pushed more and more! In 72 there was 'The Exorcist', 75 you had 'Jaws' (can be seen as a horror), 76 'The Omen', 78 'Halloween', 79 'Dawn of the Dad'. The 70's were a great decade for horror movies as they changed horror movies with such an impact it still resonates today!

Yeah I know, there were so many complaints about the original. But the fact that Leatherface's face was green in some scenes didn't help

Saw is simply the greatest horror film ever made. And it's not even true scary horror. Actually I may start a Saw thread...

Oh I'm sorry Ors the script was actually written in the late 50's but it wasn't released 'til the 70's. I suppose I'm comparing the original to films of modern times where the facilities are so much better. But then again it's still better than most of the crap turned out today. But yeah the remake is really good.

Sorry, I'm picky

But I didn't know it was written in the 50's, but I do know that writer/director Tobe Hooper got the idea while standing in a queue in a department store. He said he wanted to just get through the queue when his eyes drifted over to the chainsaws
