Why the return of Mikhail is a good thing
Like most lostfans across the interweb, i was astonished to see Mikhail galloping through the jungle in D.O.C. Not only that but i was absolutely delighted, if not a little baffled. I had long hoped for the rebirth of his fellow Other, Ethan Rom - but alas, even though he was still breathing when Charlie and Hurley buried him, it appears that death + sand = no rebirth for Ethan. However death by sonic field minus sand = rebirth for Mikhail. I suppose i shouldnt be too greedy. ![]() Despite the war which rages on between the supporter of the Others and the supporters of the losties (our very own 'Them & Us' type senario) I think that the return of the one-eyed Ukranian is a good thing for us all. Why? Well because means that they might just stop killing off the best characters all of the time - Eko, Ana, Ethan, Goodwin, Ed Mars, Boone, Shannon..need i go on? All of those were great Lost characters in my opinion and the return of Mikhail gives me some hope that they realise that good characters (however hateful to some) are what drives the show and it also gives us hope the next time one of our favourite characters gets wiped out (as long as they dont get a burial..or a sea burial for that matter) it might truely be the end. Granted, that doesnt leave many characters who may potentially rebirth..only Goodwin and a few stray Others havent been buried..oh and the pilot..and Christian.. but still, if offers us hope. Of course there are many theories as to how Mikhail came back to life after giving such a convincing performance of having ones brain mangled by a sonic fence-thingy..but that in itself is a good thing.. The idea that there is now this extra mystery that we have to find the answer to is, well..fun in my view. It's probably simply a case of the sonic fence putting Mikhail into a temporary coma..a coma which the island's healing properties facilitated his awakening from..but still there are other possibilities and the idea that Mikail seemingly knew he was going to return (see his "thankyou" line to Locke moments before his 'death') just add's to his charisma. Man i love this guy..please go taunt Charlie somemore..i think he might just blow a blood vessel!
