The premise: The Others have given Mike a mission: "Go back to your people, release 'Henry' and we wont harm Walt..Oh and one other thing....KILL ANA"
Now if we take this 'assumption' [although there are other viable possibilities]..what would you have done? Remember..lets assume thats what Mike's 'mission' was..

I don't thnik the mission included killing Ana. I think the bargin was get Henry out of there and we give you Walt. Remember Michael seemed surprised to see Ana had a gun, and I think in that minute he worked out a plan to get Henry out. I think it wasn't intented for Ana to die; wrong place, wrong time, really.

Right, going against everything i believe about why Michael did kill Ana to reply in the proper fashion to this! :P BUT ANYWAY assuming he was under orders from the Others, in his position I'd have got back into the hatch, told Jack and Locke what happened then we'd go and get the guns from Sawyer then with the help of Jack and Locke we'd tell as many trusted people we could what happened give 'em a gun (except Ana of course) then we'd all wait hidden out of sight near the hatch, get one person to release Henry then from a big distance (like til he was almost out of sight) we'd follow him back to the Others attack them try to free Walt and whoever else they held captive, of course I'd probably fail miserably but that's what I'd try if I was Michael.

I clicked other.
I would say something like: Well, how about, you gimmee Walt first, or I'll kill Henry, you and Ethan, and then Walt will Psychichally kick your Anti-Spoiler Society (acronym). Then I'll shoot 'em up and rescue Walt and be back in time for tea! |

Though i still do think he was given the assignment to kill her aswell as free Henry. Which is still sick but i would prefer this option over the otherone. Im not sure if Mike was suprised that she had a gun or if he was putting it on in order to convince her tha he wasnt a threat. Though if he was suprised i still think he needed to kill her as part of his mission. The gun probably just made it harder and mean that he had to think on his feet a little more..?

I'm really suprised people would would risk their own flesh and blood. Killings wrong, no doubt. But if someones going to die I'd rather it not my own flesh and blood...
We can say all we want about, "oh he should have told Jack and Locke and made a plan and then walked through the jungle 'THEIR' jungle and hunted them down and killed them" - only to find bits of Walt scattered all over the place ![]() How odd, and cynical. If this situation was real [and I'm sure it's actually happened before] I couldn't imagine what Mike was going through. I think he would of been pretty close raising that gun another foot or so and ending his life there and then. He's not a killer, but it goes to prove that anyone can be - with the right insentive

I'd kill Ana.
In fact I'd have used more bullets. One through the heart, one through the head and maybe a couple through the chest for good measure ![]()

I would object but if I was in Mike's position and threats such as "kill her or we'll kill him" I would do it. I dont think anyone in such a bizarre situaton could possible be thinking straight enough to come up with a fool proof alternative.

True but then again killing Ana isnt a 'full proof' option either, since he can;t be certain that they will stick to their word over Walt - if indeed that was the deal.

Well I assume its not just a case of do this and we wont kill you son, I'm guessing that after his mission is complete they will allow Michael to be with Walt. There's no guarentee you can trust them but if you dont then they will kill your son anyway, I think he would just have to blindly trust them under the circumstances. I think if roles were reversed Ana would do the same to Michael without hesitation, and if most of the survivors were put into this situation they would probably do the same - both of Sayid's Season 1 flashbacks for example showed similar reactions as he tried to save Nadia resulting in him shooting his commanding officer dead and then Essam commiting suicide respectively.

Would you shoot her? If it was to save my child I would. If it was to sacrifice one life for another again I'd do it. I may feel guilty after but family is all that counts.

I agree that was probably Michaels mission, and I'm guessing that its not over. There are other "Other Killers" like Charlie and Eko (although its possible they don't know he did it - they do now of course since Eko confessed to "Henry"
.The killing of Ana-Lucia was probably an opportunity too good to miss, achieving two objectives with one action. Because the alternative, the random killing of Ana-Lucia just to make Henrys escape look more believable, would just be too much to take. But why do it. Michael must have been brain washed in addition, I mean the easiest thing would be to tell everyone what the deal is, then fake the death of Ana-Lucia, (Charlie, and Eko) and as someone already said, follow Henry back into the jungle and torch those tents he was talking about. Now why not. As I said, brainwashed so he is now convinced The Others are good. Or he knows it is impossible to fake those deaths, for example he knows there is a spy in the camp but he does not know who it is and so on. In other words, there is no alternative.
