Something still bugs me about "time"

Okay, there still something that bugs me and it might just be a continunity error:

Desmond says hes been on the island 3 years

Jack saved Sarah 2 years ago

Something doesn't add up. We know Shannon must have been 18 when Adam died or Sabrina could not kick Shannon out legally and shes clearly says to Boone shes 18. She says shes 20 on the island - I think it was to Hurley.

So is there an experiment in time on the island and does time run quicker on the island?

I mean no way has Danielle been there for 16 years. Maybe shes only been there 8 years or something. But it's 16 years on the island as Alex is 16 years old

Does that make sense???

Desmond has been on the island 3 years, and it was about 6 months before he set off that he saw Penny. This means Jack saved Sarah 3 years ago. This still works with SHannon's age. She could have just turned 18 when her dad has his accident and be almost 21 on the island

This is the timeline i have since 2001 (it's not definate though) , theres a bit of lost experiance stuff in there but you can ignore that.

2x06 Abandoned
• Adam Rutherford is killed and Sarah is injured in a car accident.
2x23 Live Together, Die Alone
• Desmond meets Libby at a coffee shop shortly after arriving in the United States (Los Angeles?); She gives him her boat.
• Penelope tracks down Desmond at the stadium.
2x01 Man of Science, Man of Faith
• Jack meets Desmond at the stadium
• Jack finds out Sarah can walk
2x23 Live Together, Die Alone
• Desmond begins the boat race in Libby's boat.
• Desmond arrives at the island and begins pushing the button with Kelvin Joe Inman.
2x09 What Kate Did
• Kate kills Wayne and begins her life on the run from the law.

2002
2x12 Fire + Water
• Megan, daughter of Charlie's brother Liam, is born. (due to the fact she seems to be around 2 years old in 2004 when Charlie visits Liam in Sydney).
• December 31st – Alvar Hanso makes a public appearence in Madrid, Spain, this is his last public appearence before his four-year hiatus due to his imprisonment by Dr. Thomas Mittlewerk.
2003
• September 13th – Finding Nemo, which Shannon alludes to, is released in France on.
1x20 Do No Harm
• Two years after her car accident, Sarah marries Jack.
1x15 Homecoming
• Charlie dates Lucy Heatherton and gets a job from her father, Francis Heatherton, to become someone respectable.
1x03 Tabula Rasa
• Ray Mullen says that his wife died, "eight months ago Wednesday" when Kate arrived at his farm. This puts her death in the last quarter of the previous year, probably October.
2004• Canned pears in Ray Mullen's pantry, where Kate hid her wages, are dated 2003 and 2004.
• Since Rose and Bernard are newlyweds and were married soon after meeting, we can assume that their meeting takes place in the winter of 2003/2004.
• Kelvin begins repairing the boat, leaving Desmond alone in the hatch.
April 2004
• Mr. Eko's passport listed as Oduduwa Ulu was listed with a date of issue of April 16.
June 2004
• Likely date that Kate arrived at Ray Mullen's farm. Ray says she worked for him for almost three months before she was apprehended.

July 2004
• Jack sees his father, Christian Shephard operate on a patient under the influence, and releases the info. His father loses his job.
• The real Henry Gale supposedly arrives at the island via hot air balloon.
August 2004
• Sayid is apprehended by the CIA to make a deal: put his friend Essam in custody to get the location of Nadia.

September 2004
• Early September
o Sun Kwon devises a scheme to disappear from her family.
o Walt's mother Susan dies. Michael goes to Australia to get his son back.
• Mid september
o Locke cannot participate in the Walkabout he was eager to join.
o Shannon tries to con Boone but gets conned.
o Jack's mother asks him to go to Sydney in order to bring his father home.
• September 21st
o Richard Malkin gives Claire a ticket for Oceanic Flight 815 after she decides not to let her baby be adopted.
o Sayid cannot avoid Essam's suicide. He then changes flights for the next day to buy time to bury his friend.
o Charlie visits his brother Liam, only to discover that unlike him, Liam has a family now.
• September 22nd (See also Timeline:September, 2004)
o 14:55 (Sydney time, 04:55 GMT) - Oceanic Flight 815 departs from Sydney.
o 11:00 GMT - the flight loses radio contact six hours after takeoff and turns south to circle back towards Fiji
o After leaving the Swan, Kelvin is secretly followed by Desmond. After following him all the way to the cove and finding his boat docked there, still in one piece. A fight ensues between the two men and Desmond accidentally kills (assumed, status unknown) Kelvin during a dispute. Panicked, Desmond rips the fail-safe key off of Kelvin's neck and rushes back to the station. But before Desmond can make it back, the timer reaches zero, resulting in the first system failure.
o 13:00 GMT - Eight hours after takeoff, Flight 815 is nearing the island and encounters turbulence induced from the electromagnetic energy underneath the Swan overflowing due to the system failure. This eventually causes the plane to break up over the Island. This is roughly 03:00 local time on the morning of September 22, since the plane has crossed the international date line. This timeline does not correspond well with the daylight at the time of the crash or the time stamp in the log printout.
o Making it back to the Swan shortly after the system failure, Desmond rushes to the computer and enters the numbers as the entire station around him shakes. After trying, in vain, to enter the numbers several times, his entry is eventually accepted, the the system failure is disengaged, and the electromagnetic energy is discharged.
o Note: It is also possible that the plane may have been flying West rather than East. In this case, the island would be located near East Africa, placing the crash at 4:16 PM local time and explaining the drug smugglers plane and the timestamp in the log printout.
October 2004
• October 27th - The Boston Red Sox win the World Series.
While on the island Jack says "that's why the Red Sox will never win the Series."

Because when her father died (at the same time that Jack saved Sarah)..Shan was 18. On the island she was 20..

Ive always thought that something was up..and now that we havent got an explanation it does make you wonder...i mean, they are so meticulous..would they really leave in such a gaping continuity error like that..or as Abbs said, is something suspicious afoot?

Personally i think Des may have just lost track of time..and instead of 2 years, he's actually been gone 2 years..?

The producers know exactly what they're doing. In LOST magazine it says they've created a timeline just like teh one above, except it has information we don't know plus theres loads more.

And whta if people lied about their age/amount of tiime?

One thing completely missing from Nickeshis summary is the episode with Jack operating on the italian gentlemen, which culminates in Sarah saying she is seeing another man.

Just thought I'd mention this because to me that is where the continuity error occurs big time. Surely people don't give up on eachother so quickly after marriage, particularly since in this case this is the man who saved her life?

matthew fox did metion in an interview that time is a big element in the show
so who knows !!!
