I think Sawyer and Hurley were both well utilized in Season 4. Hurleys character had a lot more depth this season than any other. He played some rather emotional scenes very well. ie..
The Walt Hurley scene in the institution
The flashforward scenes with Jack, Sayid, Sun and Kate
The cabin scenes
All around consistent and fantastic job by him.
