Default Top 3 'Grave Mistakes' to Date

The 4 seasons of Lost have been filled with grave mistakes by the main characters. Some have been big, some small..but almost every character has made at least several. But moral errors aside, which mistakes have been the most costly, which have carried the biggest ramifications?

I think I've identified a worthy top 3 (in reverse order):

3. Sayid blowing Kevin's cover

We may not yet know the ramifications of what this knee-jerk reaction will do, but something tells me it could be bad for Sayid, Michael and their fellows on the island. Of course the Captain might already know that Kevin is Michael, heck the captain might even be working for Ben! But we know for sure that Inspecter Sayid trips up somewhere between now and his Economist flash-forward, and this could well be the moment in which he "used his heart instead of his gun".

What really gets me about Sayid's thinking, is that he thinks that Michael betrayed him and the Losties..um, since when was Sayid's horse so high?

2. Locke being "Wrong" over the button

Although Ben's relationship with that button is still very ambiguous, the signs (such as his dual dream with Eko) point to the fact that the island wanted him to keeping on pushing it - if he had the Freighties wouldn't currently be crawling the island in search of Ben, and snippering old French women and frisky boys now would they. So yeah, Locke's got a lot of work to do and a whole heap of mess to clean up.

Still, in fairness to him you can understand why he did let the timer run down. Faith is often a fickle thing.

1. Jack making "that call"

Yes, the biggest mistake in Lostory to date surely has to be Jack making 'that' call! He wants to go home, sure, I can understand that. But when Ben and Locke are singing of the same hyhm sheet, you have surely got to listen?

Of course these are only my opinions

Whereas Locke's actions allowed Team Widmore to find the island, Jack left the back door open..infact he left the front door open! A grave mistake indeed..even Jack himself agrees..

I have to say I think 1 and 2 are mixed up.

Failing to push the button evidently allowed the island to be detected for a brief few moments, as we saw the polar station reacting to an 'anomaly' as soon as the the button wasn't pressed. Jack was only able to make that call because of that incident, as no doubt the island would have stayed hidden otherwise.
As far as I can tell, Jack's call only hastened the freighties' arrival, and presumably didn't have any effect on their objectives.

In fact, disabling the radio tower's message might have been the actual mistake at that point, rather than making the call.

Fair perspective, but I just feel that Jack's actions were more counter productive to keeping the island safe. Sure, Locke crippled one of the fail-safe's, but Jack nullified the other two. He also seemed to be in sounder mind than a Locke who's faith was crippled at the time of letting the timer run down.

I think that a mistake from a test of faith is usually more forgiveable than a mistake resulting from a test of glaring wanring signs.

Yeah, but Jack never had any faith in the island, so really he was suffering from ignorance, and I wouldn't call Ben's warnings (who is a repetative liar, don't we forget) 'glaring warning signs', and in Jack's eyes Locke's murdering of Naomi would have been proof that Locke was a nutter. All he was concered about was getting off the island, whereas Locke had found the hatch, opened it, banged on about how it was his destiny for god knows how long, until Ben made him lose his faith and stop pressing the button... so my conclusion is that Ben brought it all on himself (i kind of steered away from the point there )

I blame Ben

It's all destiny Roco
What would Lost be like without these mistakes. We're all human and can't avoid mistakes
