Edward Kistis and Adam Horowitz, writers of the much cherished "Expose" episode, have been talking about how the writers strike has affected Lost's fourth season and what they have done to work around the interruption:
"The last two weeks before the strike, we actually sat down and said, 'Here is what we want to tell for the rest of the season, we all sat down, and the entire staff came up with a battle plan in place."
Interestingly they reveal that they
"got to tell a little more story this season than we anticipated" - which would possibly explain for the constant reveals and the 'up-front' nature of many of the characters.
Like the fans the LOST writers are excited about the remaining 5 episodes of season 4, Kitsis says; "
We came back from the strike, and everyone is just really excited, and I have to say, creatively, every day has been a pleasure. Everything we're doing right now is exciting, and every script that is going out, you're jealous if you didn't write it." Which is good to hear.
As mentioned, we only have 5 more episodes before we have to endure an even longer hiatus. As for the formula for how those 'missing episodes' will be reallocated, Horowitz explains;
"I feel that the three missing episodes will be made up over the course of the next two seasons, Seasons four, five and six are meant to encompass 48 episodes." I'm not really sure how I feel about that - in one sense it would be great to have double episode finales just for the sheer epic-nature of it all, but on the other hand those finales will always feel like one episode, so it will feel as if we've been robbed of 3 episodes (the original plan was to have 16 episodes in season 4)..and every Lost fan knows that episodes of our favourite show is like gold dust. I guess it's all about perspective though, and as long as the series continues to excel, that's all that we, as fans, can hope for.
