Default The Hostiles

Apologies of course if this has been discussed...

Can we gain any more information from the fact that Kelvin uses the term "The Hostiles"?

One one level it is of course possible that he and Danielle are using different terms for the same group, and there is not more to it than that.

But Danielle's term is telling in the sense that in using it she is creating a gap between herself and them. They are "other"; they are separate to her and her group.

The Hostiles on the other hand doesn't necessarily show this.

One possible scenario is that Kelvin and the others were all part of the original dharma experiements. The others realised that Dharma weren't all that great, refused to go along with the experiments and broke free. To Kelvin, they would seem hostile, as they are effectively rejecting what he is doing in there. To themselves, they are the real "good people" because they have realised that these experiements are bad and are doing something about it (rescuing kids from it etc.)

I'm not really sure how much mileage there is in this, but as we've probably got a long wait ahead of us, it's one area we could tear apart a bit!

That's very interesting CBG, I've never thought about it like that.

Henry Gale, Zeke (sorry, Tom), Goodwin and Ethan have always said they were the good guys. But they've done some pretty bad things, such as taking Walt, Aaron, Claire and Michael, trying to kill Charlie, and taking all those kids from the Tailies.

If what you say is true and they are people who have defected from Dharma (maybe experiment subjects who found out they were being experimented on) then how did they get hold of the names of the crash victims?

Mmmm

I took the first point of view until reading your post. The Others never really introduce themselves (hell, they even use false names most of the time) so its up to the people they encounter to give them names. And why should two independent groups give them the same name. This also means Danielle never encountered Kelvin.

But you are right, "hostile" has a double meaning. Being the people behind "hostilities" is the one I thought of, but you can be "hostile" to someones ideas or plans without actually getting physical. So yeah, thats a possibility.
