Does the sighting of the four toed statue suggest that the Island has a LONG history? It was just so weird.

What is it? Who built it? Where's the rest of it? Why does it have four toes?!!

Judging by the foot, the rest of the statue must have been massive, it was all abit wierd really

Yes, I think this means the island has a long cultural history. It may not be continuous though, a bit like us and Stonehenge. We know how to take care of the stones (or not) but we don't really know what it looked like except for some computer graphics attempts, and we don't know what it was used for.

Reminded me of the Collossus of Rhodos, and that scene in Lord of the Rings (First movie) when they paddle up the river. Don't know how many toes these guys had though

I think it was destroyed in the last incident (that crops up all the time in my theories) but as the four toes, some kind of leader maybe? No clue.

There's something on the C4 forum about Trolls.

Aparently, they have four toes, turn to stone in daylight, are giant, make clones, and can float invisbly throug the air and whisper a lot. Lots of links, go check it out. I believe it's on Wiki too

I just have this vision of the master sculptist being beating his apprentice for missing off a toe when he did the foot!

But yes, very reminiscent of the Collossus, although much smaller I think. Lots about that on Wikipedia by the way. I wonder if they're just messing with us, or if it is a reference to genetic tampering, or a civilisation where evolution took a different route. After all, the island is very hard to leave, so presumably it's stayed fairly isolated from the rest of the world.

Maybe its not a statue of a man, but a mythical beast. Like a centaur or hippogriff. I mean the rest is missing, isn't it. Whatever it is, it looks ancient and thats the whole point I think. The island has always been inhabited, and isolated from the rest of the world. And as Desmond has proven, you can't leave even if you have a boat.

Well, he gave directions in terms of compass headings, but after the Swan imploded I think those directions will be useless.

Also, he said "au revoir, Michael" rather than good bye, so he expects to see him back. I mean how many yanks no any words in foreign and use it?

Yeah, i hope we do see Mike and Walt again..and youre right to point out that the compass might be pretty much useless now that the electromagnetic station blew up. I suspect that Henry was genuine in his sentiment to let Mike go free..but hopefully we'll see him back at some point..well it would be nice to think that he and Walt are saved..but i would miss both of them from a Lost point of view.

Maybe Micheal and Walt will eventually meet the Penelopes team as they have the coordinates that Michael's go (the only way in/out according to Henry).

So Michael will probably end up a hero (always will be to me for shooting Ana Lucia)

And, Rocco, I agree, Henry was giving Michael genuine directions - genuine at the time.

I would be very dissapointed if Lost turns into "the Lost World" meets "Clash of the Titans" meets "Warlords of Atlantis" etc with a giant statue of a lost civilisation.

WIth Lindisoff and curse in charge who knows!!
