Default Pala Ferry?

I rewatched part of the finale last night and im sure the dock that the Others held the losties at gunpoint was called something like Pala (or Parla??) Ferry..

Now is this the supposed Ferry service that Wickman/Candle mentioned in the Pearl video? So assuming he was telling the truth (about this aspect), the Pearl workers were transported (or 'ferried') back to their 'barracks' (another army term!) every so often. So does this mean that the barracks are on another island..or simply on another part of this island?

Anyway, i was wondering why 'they' called it 'Pala'..not a word i come across very often..so i looked it up (the word 'Pala' that is..no spoilers discovered!) it turns out that the word Pala has several meanings:

-Pala is a town in San Diego County, California.
-Pala is a town in Chad.
-Pala is a town on Atauro Island, East Timor.
-Pala Commune is a rural municipality in Estonia.
-Pala Empire was an empire of the eastern Indian subcontinent.
-Pala was the region in Anatolia during the Bronze Age which spoke the Palaic language. It was to the northwest of Hattusa on the other side of Mount Asharpaya.
-Pala Lake is a protected wetland on Aunu'u, American Samoa.
-Pala is a native California tribe.
-Pala is a fictional island in the Adlous Huxley novel, Island.

Anyhoo, i bolded the ones that seem to have some possible bearing in relation to lost, as you can (hopefully) see/understand..

I mean, in Lost they choose names etc very carefully..so why 'Pala'? Perhaps some of the above can help us to shed some light on it?

Ah, the irony that this thread should be about Ferries..and that it should sink like a lead balloon. Love it!

Waw thats a lot of research. There's DEFFINITELY a connection, how can you remember all these things? The question is is it a writers in-joke or is it relevant?

And it's about time we learnt the difference between Hanso/Dharma and The Others/Hostiles?

Pala also means protector is a different language, i'm not sure what though, it's probably not relevant but i thought i'd point it out.

Default Pala Ferry?

There are various Island references so that obviously has bearing on Lost.

But some of the other references are to 'protected/protector and towns.' Perhaps the Ferry protects them from the island by taking them back to town/civilisation. Or it could be the other way around I suppose. Being away from town/civilisation could be how people are 'protected' on the island. Or that town/civilisation is protected from the people on the island (maybe that would be needed after the 'incident.'

Well that was a messed-up ramble but hopefully it made vague sense.

Personally I'd say thats the one, there were so many other literary references, and Huxley is a Sci-fi writer (haven't read any). So maybe this is a hint to look for clues in some of his other novels? Or maybe this one in itself relevant?

Having said that, Pala Alto is an observatory in California, which judging by the list you provided there probably is named after the tribe, but could be another "science" link
