I'm guessing Libby was there because she had a mental breakdown after the death of her husband.
Libby told Desmond her husband had died, so I'm hoping that Libby eventually recovered and was stable enough later to have that nice conversation with Desmond and give him her husband's boat. Last edited by Miss Austen; 07-07-2008 at 08:22 PM. |

thats a good point actually
, yeah watched 'Dave' the other day and the bit at the end always gets you really wanting to know. Its one of those secrets along with the special Walt mystery that I'm worried the writers will never explain ![]()

It's those loose ends that keeps us watching!
![]() Who knows - maybe even Libby's husband might be introduced at some stage or we may have already seen him but don't know it yet! |

Well Desmond was swept under the carpet for a long time. He disappeared completely but he turned up later and now he's a major part of the show - could happen again!
I don't think Dave ever existed but Libby definitely did. Dave was a figment of Hurley's imagination. In fact he was Hurley's alter ego that was keeping him fat and stopping him from recovering. Libby's mental breakdown may have caused memory lapses and perhaps she genuinely didn't recognise or remember Hurley? Last edited by Miss Austen; 07-07-2008 at 08:53 PM. |

You may be right; but I've always thought of Libby as an open and nice character. She always seemed nice to Hurley and I never felt she had any hidden agendas - but this is LOST so who knows!

I never really invested in her though , but I felt really good for Hurley , and when she kisses him is a really nice moment. But when she died I only really felt sad for Hurley

Yep! I felt bad for Hurley because at last he'd found someone who treated him seriously as a person.
I think it's natural we would care more for Hurley than Libby because Hurley has been with us since Season 1 and he is a sympathetic character. He's never really done anything bad and does his best to cheer everyone up. He was even nice to Juliet when she turned up at the camp whereas everyone else (apart from Jack) was shunning her. Libby we only saw from Season 2 and she wasn't a major character even then - it was more Ana and Eko who were the lead roles amongst the Tailies - even Bernard didn't figure much. I have a feeling we might see more of Libby at some point. I think she might be like Desmond was initially and is an untapped character for the moment but could play a greater role later. It would be interesting to find out why she ended up in the institution. It may be something more sinister than her feeling the after effects of her husband's death. She looked in a pretty bad way in the mental institution and seemed in a worse state than Hurley. |

did they say how the husband died? maybe they've been to the island on the boat b4, and got away. but it was calling them back like in the flashforwards and he killed himself like jack wanted too, and it sent libby into the mental institution like hurley?
highly unlikely i know lol, just probably reading to much into a story line again lol ![]() |

Hi Taffy Bhoy,
I don't recall hearing how Libby's husband died so if anyone knows let's hear from them! ![]() Your theories are just as good as anyone else's. It's guesswork from all of us, but it's fun trying to be correct before we know the truth according to the scriptwriters. There are quite a few unanswered questions surrounding Libby - perhaps we'll have some answers next season. ![]() |

The only peripheral character on LOST I can think of who died and would be rich enough to own a boat was Juliet's ex husband. However, he seemed single and fancy free at the time of his death and playing the field. So that would rule him out of being Libby's husband - unless he was Libby's husband in another life!

Maybe she was in mental institution cos of Widmore... Maybe she had something to do with him. Or maybe, but maybe she was in Dharma and she escaped the purge by time travel which caused her to have a mental break down. She somehow found her constant but it was a little bit too late. Who knows...
