Libby and Desmonds boat

Okay, so all this theorizing about Dessie has made me think about his journey to the island etc. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the extent of Libbys involvement with the island/Dharma etc.

Was it just a case of coincidence that she gave Dessie her husbands boat or was it more?

Was libby actually working for Dharma and intentionally gave Des a boat which she knew would crash on the island.

Libby it seems is a character who has more connectioons with the losties/Dharma than any other character on the island, yet we know the least about her and look like never finding out anything.

Any thought on Libby?

I don't think David is dead IMO.

I think Libby was spying on Hurley for him in the mental ward and gave Desmond the boat that was controlled by remote by David to make it crash on the island because they knew that he was time travelling back and telling people like Donovan about the island.

Also, if David IS still alive and IS involved with Dharma then it allows us to see Libby's story at second hand at some point in the future.

How very interesting stuff Abbott! I never have seen it that way, I always presumed the control was not directly driven e.g fate, but this kind of 'spying' makes sence and lets a lot of cogs whirl in my head.

Its a good theory Abbot but I dont buy the whole Desmond Time-Traveeled thing yet so dont completely agree with it.

I like the fact that we could see more of Libby in someone elses flashback though, as I think she is very important and had a big part to play.

I'm not sure I get that.

I mean, I'd assume whoever is controlling stuff wouldn't want Desmond to be telling people (ie Donovan) about the Island. So why would they send him there based on knowing he'd come back via time travel and tell?

THis episode has turned me into a complete muppet. I can't put a coherent thought together in my head!!!

because Dharma can't change what happened so they need Desmond on the island to press the numbers into the computer.

Its only a wacko theory that tried to explain why I think David is not dead and I think he may be Hurley's "Dave".

I wondered that too. I wouldnt be surprised, knowing Lost! Especially as there was a connection between Libby and Hurley.

I think this is why Libby was killed because they knew Desmond was returning for the finale so they quickly dispensed with Libby as the two would recognise each other (and reveal some sodden answers!!)

I dont agree with that. Ok Libby has alot of mystery and im not sure why she lied about being a clinical pyschologist (Unless she didnt lie and she was actually a pyschologist before she went mad)

But i cant see her being connected to Dharma, IMO i think 'It was Fate that brought them together'

I can’t help but thin that Pen’s dad got Libby to “accidentally” bump into Desmond and Pen’s dad said help him with whatever he wants or something so when she found out he needed a boat she said she had one made up story about her husband and got Pen’s dad to arrange it

I am going with this theory as Pen’s dad is the last person you would suspect of giving Des a boat and Libby’s story is obviously a lie (nothing on Lost is straight forward)

I have also considered on and off if Libby and Pen’s dad were “involved”

Yeah i think pennys dad does know Libby, giving Desmond a boat is the only way he can get rid of him and if he knew it was to crash on the island then he would know Penny would have time to fall in love with some other guy and forget all about Des!

I was thinking more Pen told her dad that she wanted nothing more to do with him because of him getting rid of Desmond and the only way to retain a link with Pen is for her dad to give Desmond a stab at winning the race thing and claiming Pen back as his prize but

1) Pen’s dad wouldn’t want Desmond knowing it was him who helped

2) Desmond probably wouldn’t have accepted help from him
