Is Evangeline Really That Bad An Actress?

When I think of Kate I just generally think of a boring character, apart from her looks

I can't really remember anything interesting her character has done, so I wouldn't blame it on Evangeline... or would I?

I don't think anyone thinks Evi is a particularly 'great' actress - but I don't think any of the actresses on the show are particularly 'great' at all - I think peoples biggest problem is with how much criticisms she receives.

Although I agree with your point about Elizabeth Mitchell, and honestly don't think MR 'stole' any scenes. She was loud and opinionated in scenes but I was never particularly in utter respect of her performance, in the same way I sit up and pay attention when Locke, ME or Foxy give a line or portray an emotion.

I could list many, many scenes with other female actresses where Kate has more than out played them, but that isn't really something to shout home about.

It's a given that the likes of Naveen, Josh, Foxy, Tel, ME are going to outshine her because they really are that much better than her. But, even though I don't think she's the greatest actress in the world, I struggle to think that, having someone else play Kate, would give you, you or you (*points*) a different opinion of her or the actress that was lucky enough to play her.

The quality of the script is always a consideration..and if in being honest, i don't think the script for 'Kate' is all that bad..infact it's perhaps quite well written.

It's therefore the job of the actor (Evi) to bring the character to life, to interpret the themes, emotions, motives etc of that written script to screen..and i just don't think she has done a good job, considering.

That's not to say she's a bad person, why im sure she's a delightful young lady with much to offer, in time. However the fact that she (presumably) picks up a check the size of Kilomanjaro(sp), when people like Mitchell, MR and even mainstays like Andrews and Josh, presumably get less..well..thats just wrong.

If she just portrayed a random character like Greta, Boonie, Clyde or Claire then it wouldn't be so bad, but she's the lead actress and for someone who loves the show like I do, it kinda sticks (no pun intended).

So yeah, 'Kate' is a rather bland soul..but considering all of her crimes and all of what 'Kate did', she really really shouldn't be. Methinks this is an indictment on Evi. Sorry, Evi, but i love this show and I only want the best for it.

My friend and I, when we saw Kate meet Cassidy in her flashback, discussed what it would be like if Evie played Cassidy and Kim Dickens (I think, lol) played Kate.

To be perfectly honest, I think it'd make me like Kate a heck of a lot more and I'd be a lot happier watching her scenes. However, it was pointed out to me that this could be because I like Cassidy so much. And in turn, because Evie would be playing Cass, I'd no longer like Cassidy.

I'm not really sure what I'm adding to the conversation, just that I've often thought what Lost would be like with a different actress playing Kate.

I see where you're coming from But I still don't see what Evangeline Lilly could have done majorly differently to improve the character of Kate. Just let out a random scream of discontent every now and then when being arrested?
