Does Kate deserve Jack doing a Kate and legging it? ..is Jack right to save himself? (irrespective of the fact that he now cant, lol).

Jack was actually a bit of a git to Kate, to be honest. Can't stand either of them much, but that ridiculous 'You told me to trust them' nonsense - as in, because saying anything else at that point would've resulted in Sawyer's execution. What is he, six? Reacting to losing his flaky and potential girlfriend to someone else by legging it out of there with barely a second thought for the people he's left behind - and that's the implication; he's going primarily because Ben showed him Kate and Sawyer together - is petty beyond belief. I actually think he came out of it looking more of an eejit than she did.

And yes, legging it was obviously immensely tempting, but it surprises me that Jack would be that easily tempted when he knows he's leaving behind people (and a baby) in a very dangerous place with an ever-growing graveyard. I still find it hard to believe he'd say 'Yeah, whatever, off I go' without even trying to persuade Ben to actually let *all* of them go. Way too much 'every man for himself' for my liking.

I think Kate would have understood Jack taking the opportunity to leave, particularly as he said he'd be back for her. Its like the raft - if you've got the balls to build it and sail it, then all credit to you - go go go!

I don't think she doesn't understand what its like to be alone - seems like she's been that way for most of her life (even when she's with someone, she's alone )

Well i have to stick up for Jack somewhat..i mean, Kate made her choice..she choice James..Jack has been burned already with Sarah and so you cant expect him to give too hoots about Kate now. Of course he still cares about her but if he acknowlegdes that now he'll just bring about more pain. He needs to forget her and even if that means running. Jack deserves the chance to run imo..afterall, he's paid his due in that respect by standing firm for so long.

Also, just a slight correction..it wasnt Ben who showed Jack K+S together..Jack just saw it of his own accord

It's not just Kate he's leaving behind though... as I said elsewhere, I wonder how he'd feel if he knew he was planning on abandoning his sister and nephew to their fates. It's all very well saying 'I'll get help' when people on that island have a life expectancy of about five minutes. Being a member of the caring professions in particular, he should've tried to get more people to safety while he was in possession of the high ground: he shouldn't have been so readily blinded by his own needs.

And I wouldn't say Jack found that picture all by himself. Someone planted a message and someone left the door unlocked. And then Ben appeared. In my view, Jack was kidnapped because Ben needed a surgeon and Kate and Sawyer were kidnapped because Ben needed leverage over Jack. And it worked.

Yes, it is an interesting thought re the Claire/Aaron business. Not sure whether he would actually feel any extra connection to them even if he did know that they're his relatives though

To Jacks credit i think he is trying to do the right thing, because at least this way *someone* gets off the island (i.e himself) and so he could potentially send help that way. Of course this may have been futile anyway but it at least gave him hope..and it's better to take such an opportunity than to not take it and remain on the island with no possibility of someone sending help..except Mike maybe?

Maybe he shouldve tried to get more people a ticket home but then he doesnt want to push it. ben is being more than reasonable, going out of his way infact, to accomodate Jack. So perhaps Jack respects this and senses that an influx of ignorant Losties on one submarine wouldnt be best advised..especially when they have to first travel to Othersville. And we know how trigger happy they all are .and perhaps he's given up on his old 'live together' stance..cant blame him with 'friends' like K+S around.

Well a man was dying..a man needed an operation which shouldnt have been witheld from him in the first place..sometimes a man has to do what a man has to do..so i dont blame Ben for setting that situation up (if indeed he did get Alex to lure Jack out..which is doubtful that she would help her dad so soon after expressing hatred towards him).

And yes, perhaps Ben did want K+S for leverage..but then this was a natural strategy which cannot (in my view) be looked upon too harshly. At least they were fed and watered

I agree. Maybe it smmes like Jack was being selfish, but what would the pint in trying to get more Losties to come along if he didn't even know he would be let free? As far as he knew, they were all safe back on the beach, so the most Logical thing would be to get away and come back for them - he didn't know that he couldn't return.

And I think don't think Kate deserves it, although she did go against his will to try and save him but really ended up wrecking the whole plan. But I wouldn't blame Jack, if he was going just to get away (which, in my opinion, isn't why he wanted to go)
