but if I had to choose then vunerable Kate.
I dont even know what to chose and i made the poll

I think i, like you, would choose vunerable Kate, because at least then we see some honesty and that.

I dont like hardass Kate though, it just seems like she's trying to be something she's not..either that or she overdoes the acting when trying to be hardass..or when trying to act fullstop

Well, she's hardly a likeable character, is she? But I suppose she comes closest to that when she has those flashes of morality that lead her to do altruistic things even at the expense of her own safety - stopping for that Australian farmer bloke, putting the oxygen mask on the marshall, apparently being prepared to take a bullet for Sawyer. But those moments also show up her intense weirdness... how can she be so altruistic and caring on occassions and so blind to her own immorality on others (while I'm sure her real dad was an unpiteable beast, not to recognise that there was *anything* amiss in murdering him and being stunned that someone else might not be able to carry out such a deed was frankly bizarre)?

The only two times I actually felt something vaguely warm towards her were in a single episode, when they first went into the hatch. Her reaction to tasting chocolate again was a good empathy draw, and her out and out confusion when 'Make Your Own Kind of Music' came surreally on was kind of delightful. But those are just disconnected moments and not really representative of anything in her deeper character.
She is something of a paadox isnt she. Perhaps she is just a disconnected person who sometimes flicks between imorality and morality It's stange really..i think we really need to see a 'young' Kate..as in when she was a child, in order to perhaps see the seeds of her later self. For example, i find it really helpful to see a young Hugo and Sun..and even the Young Sawyer flashback was useful in helping me to build a better understanding of the character (imo)

And yes, that 'Make you own kind of music' moment was good..one of her few

I know Sawyer has the mantel as 'complex guy' but she has by far and in large the most inconsistent character - by that I mean the writers obviously want us to see the multi-personalities of Kate, I'm not sure why. I hope it's not only to solidify her confusing man choices but will help explain some mammoth event/test she'll eventually come up against.

Had she not had the love triangle I'd probably like her character more. They really could have gone anywhere with Kate's flashback but they always seem so samey (as with many other character flashbacks...). But to answer the question I'm going to surprise myself and choose 'Fickle Kate' not because of her fickleness with men, but her inconsistent character choices.

I chose Brave Kate because when she is brave, she can do good things - going off to rescue Jack, and help Danielle be reunited with Alex (so far anyway) volunteering to carry the dynamite, putting the mask on the marshall ect.

Although there are some downsides to this Kate, she can be impulsive and make bad decisions (e.g. following Jack and co when going to try and rescue Michael and Walt - stopping them making a bargain)

Agreed. In the first season, I thought it was plain inconsistent writing: flashback Kate and island Kate seemed like two completely different people to me, and island Kate just didn't seem capable of doing the things flashback Kate had done in her past. They've melded the two a little more successfully now, but she's still one of the most bizarrely compositions I've ever come across.

I voted 'other Kate' in the absence of
