Default Kate has 'Lost' it?

It's no secret that I dont really like Kate..and i know there are plenty of others who also dont really connect with her character [although she does have her fair share of supporters also]. Im worried about her role though..apart from Maternity Leave [where she was fantastic i must admit!] what has she contributed to S2 of Lost? Im struggling to connect with her and im seriously wondering what purpose she serves other than the whole Jate/Skate scenario..

There's no doubt in my mind that Ana-Lucia is the new lead female [even if it is only unofficially] and after seeing 'Dave', im seriously thinking that Libby might now be the No.2 lead female, closely followed by Claire and then Kate, who has Rose close on her heels..

I mean, Eva is 'supposed' to be the lead actress..and is presumably paid a sum that reflects this 'status'. But is this fair? Doesnt Michelle deserve to be paid more than Eva and doesnt she deserve to no be considered the lead actress since like her or loathe her, the girl can seriously act!

Does anyone have any thoughts on this issue?

I agree with most of what you say, but you can't really blame the actress for not being involved in any interesting storylines. Your right about Ana being lead female now but Kate is still no.2. Personally I'd like to see more of claire because i thought she was great in maternity leave.

I wouldnt say Ana was lead female and I doubt after Michelle's well documented police problems that the Lost producers would want to market her that way let alone pay her more than Eva.

I dont think Ana is any more of a major character than Kate, they all go through spells of being in it a lot and then vanishing. At the start of the series it seemed Michael was going to become a big part then they suddenly ditched him and hes been gone for most of the series.

Yeah you have a point about it not necessarily being Eva's fault that she's not invloved in many interesting storylines...but i wonder why this is? Has JJ realised that she can only be pushed so far as an actress? or perhaps they dont have the confidence in her to pull off any big scenes? I wonder whether Eva feels offended by her lack of character development or whether she's not too bothered to be consigned to the Jate box?

After Maternity Leave, i too would like to see more of Claire. She really opened my eye's in that episode because if thats what Emilie is capable of then they have so far under utilised her. But i suppose they have alot of characters to juggle and so cant put everyone in the spotlight all of the time?

True, Mich has had some problems but they could use that to their advantage by repackaging her as the rough diamond [thats a comlpementary expression btw ]. Seeing as they have managed to wonderfully turn her character around from one who was 'almost' universally hated inot one who people are now begining to fall in lover with [if they hadnt already :P ]..perhaps this would be a good person to officially make the lead female. Because in no way shape or form has Kate come accross as the lead actress in this season. If it wasnt for her lengthy screen-time and pro-marketing i seriously doubt whether a newcomer to 'Lost' viewing would point her out as being the female lead.

Youre right, they do all go through spells when their not as focused on but this is now 18 episodes[!] where i have seen Kate as nothing more than a sub-character. Even in 'What Kate Did' i came out seeing her as something of a peripheral figure, despite how discusted i was with her behaviour in that episode [eg blowing up her own dad]. Michael has had a serious impact this season..he's been tremendous and even though he's missing..imo in his absence he's still been more of a character than Kate [as funny as that may sound].

Well for me the whole "love triangle" Jack-Kate-Sawyer has been a bit of a wash out really, the relationship between Jack and Sawyer is of more interest for me!

Also the whole "Why was she on the run" was marketed as one of the great mysteries of Lost, and that was just a total let down!

She has took more of a back seat this season, but to be honest so have all the female characters.

Ana has took over Kates role of not associating with any of the woman, whereas Kate now seems to have blossoming friendships with both Sun and Claire.

Thats a good point! I too find the relationship between Jack and Sawyer ['Sack'] more interesting that either Skate or Jate!

Also, i kinda agree..her 'why was she on the run?' storyline hasnt quite lived up to expectation..although it did serve to make me hate her more. I suppose there is perhaps more to come from that whole plot device though..

Default Kate has 'Lost' it?

Sorry for repeating this (I've said it on a couple of other threads) but Kate bores me no end!

For me she doesn't have the screen presence a lead actress should have - for instance when Locke appears I really concentrate, but in Kate's scenes my attention isn't really focused or drifts away altogether. Heck even AL has more of a screen presence than Kate does! As much as she will never be in my list of top ten characters, at least she invokes some emotion/intrigue when I watch her, whereas if I watch a Kate scene it's a miracle if I can remember it the next day.

I dont think Evie is the world's best actress, but maybe that's because a lot of her material/storylines revolve around the tedious Jate/Skate plots.

Claire has the potential to be a raelly strong character, but I think she is being held back a bit, and as bad as this may sound I can't see her becoming a lead character with a baby in tow. Which is a shame really, as Emilie is a great actress.

And Lord help us all if Libby becomes a leading character

Funny you should say that, because I "got" Lost rather late in S1 and I hadn't worked out who the lead female was. I thought it was Claire. Still do.

That would be inappropriate.

She's what, 22? That makes me about five times her age. I could be her great-great-great-grandfather!

No smut like that please on your forum!
