Wink The NEED to LOVE Locke

His face...the moment he realised that he had won the chess game..I think along with every Locke fan out there i melted..ooh it was a wonderful moment..wonderful because it was the first time in a long time that I had seen John grin like a cheshire cat..so free, so joyous, so very Orange-smile-Locke..retro even

Yes, he was fiddling with another button..and yes (as Murg has said elsewhere) he was hanging on the every word of another carnation of Wickmund..of course this was dangerous ground for the man of actually quite brittle faith..but heck, it was fabolous, seeing him ignoring Mikky-hail's advise was great - t'was almost a "Dont tell me what i cant do!" all over again*. Thats the thing about Locke, when he's edgy, he's fantastic..this whole Enter 77 thing was imo fantastic.

Yes yes, he blew up yet another Dharma facility..but those Dharma Freaks got bigger things to worry about..and anyway, whats Locke without a few knives, falling Boones, Collapsing hatches and exploading buildings? Yes people, Locke is back..he's got his grove back intact..you can just see it in his blazing eyes..

I do believe..well i do believe that ive fallen back in love with the great one (not that i ever fell out of love with him..just been a lil preoccupied with Ben, thas all )

So..I ask you..do you feel the need to LOVE LOCKE!?

*Melts* Oh happy days, yes, yes i do feel the need! *skips* Yeah...

Lol not really! I don't hate him, but I certainly don't love him. For one, he's a messed up guy, he can't think for himself, and has to rely on 'signs' - his own distorted perception of things.

He encouraged Boone to go in the plane, when he saw a vision of Boone being injured

He blew up the hatch and risked everyone's live, not to mention the whole world - if we are to beleive that pressing the button saves the world.

He helped Sayid to lock Ben up to torture him

He always makes mistakes: Deciding not to enter the numbers, leaving Mikhail, entering 77...

I could go on..

Default The NEED to LOVE Locke

The *need* to love him is such a good way of putting it. I do feel that, at almost all costs, but I wouldn't exactly say I want to. He does terrible things an awful lot of the time... and it becomes the need to make excuses so I can keep loving him. It's a bit absurd really. Just shows what a stunning episode Walkabout was really... he was too good a character not to love, and I don't much want anything to change that.

He always makes mistakes: Deciding not to enter the numbers, leaving Mikhail, entering 77...

But thats the thing - yes he is messed up, but thats slightly the point..thats part of the reason why I (and maybe others) love him so..he's just so very human..and he's also achieved some wonderful things..i think we all have a piece of Locke within us (so to speak) and it's his human nature which i just love.

I now feel bad for not being wholly positive about him last week (or was it the week before, i forgets?)..in the space of one episode he has reminded me that the world doesnt revolve around Ben..it revolves around Ben and Locke

Seriously though, it's a shame you dont see him the way his legions do..he really is a special character

And you;re right, he does rely on 'signs'..but isnt that beautiful? Isnt it wonderful that this 'everyman' is open to the possibilities that there are things beyond what we can comprehend? I for one, love this aspect of Locke. It's not that he cant think for himself..because he clearly 'can' - i seem to remember him choosing to smach the computer off his own steam.. it's also this danger which excites me about Locke..he's just so blooming unstable (in a good way)..aint it wonderful!

He didnt know Boone would die..he apologised and has sinced redeemed himself. Boones role in all of this was to help Locke..Boone did that..even by dying, Boone fulfilled his destiny so that he could facilitate Lockes - 'were all connected' and all that jazz

Locke was going through a mid-faith crisis when he helped Jarrah lock Ben up. I forgive John for that..so does Ben, im sure.

Yes, Locke makes mistakes..and yet he has discovered more than any of the other Losties..he is the one who from day one, took us by the hand and guided us through the island..Lostie, i ask you..do not dessert him now.. it's a leap of faith *eyes begin to water*

It's not his being messed up that makes me dislike him, it's how he makes so many mistakes, which affect the rest of the Losties in such a bad way.

I do see him as a special character, but I don't appreciate his character as much as some, someone who can't decide things for themselves and is constantly making mistakes isn't somthing I look for in a character :P

Ah, but Marvin told him it was an experiment in the first place, which led him to beleive it was. The he became obsessed with not pushing the button, and when he though Des was going to try and wreck it for him, he smashed the computer.

I'm sure Boone was far better than to be used as part of Locke's destiny, Boone's life was more valuble than that. I can't agree with the whole faith and destiny thing, although I can see where you are coming from.

I can't desert him, because I was never with him. I' not saying I hate him -although I think it may be coming across like that - I just dislike him and don't really agree with his views.

However much I am and always will remain a Locke fan I wanted to kill him at the end of this episode!!

He was like a little boy, oh oops I didnt know that was going to happen!! As for him being stupid enough to leave a prisoner well that was just careless.

Makes me really question (again) which side Locke really is on.....

hehe, i can appreciate that..for me i actually do want to love him and i just cant help but do so..but any Locke love is good Locke love

I think alot of people are just head over heels in love with Locke for so many different reasons, despite his faults..because in truth, his faults arent 'bad'..theyre just 'flaws', which most of us can understand or appreciate.

and indeed..Walkabout was utterly special!

Oh absolutely there's a need to love the great Locke!

He's so beautifully open minded but can also be incredibly practical as well, and although he makes his (continued) mistakes, it's what most of us do and, compared to some other characters, Locke's aren't nearly as bad. I just love his attitude in general, like when he assumed leadership of the beach Losties and handled things completely different as to how Jack would have done. And when Nikki (curse you writers) pointed out about the tvs in the Pearl, he was just calmly self-deprecating about the whole thing, instead of bursting into tears or getting into a strop over it. I think in some respect it's easy to love Locke because we know how rotten his past has been, and yet he still refuses to be broken by it and continues to trust in people and believe that his life is worth living and that there really is something worthwhile for him to be a part of, and that's just wonderful I think

I'll love you always Locke!

Oh, but I wish he had burst into tears when Nikki pointed out his (unbelievable) mistake! That would've been divine. I'd have loved him even more then.

Oh I would have been heartbroken if Nikki of all people had caused Locke to have another breakdown and go into a rant about his pathetic life!

It still irritates me no end that neither Locke or Sayid could have figured that out about the tvs, and instead Nikki had to point it out so that we could be force fed the fact that she's not a dumb blonde
