Is there anything that Locke won't do when Marvin tells him? Does he consider all the bumps in the road to be nothing more than, well, bumps in his destiny? Is this why he seems to cling desperatly to whatever Orientation tapes he can find (in a similar way to Desmond did in his first flashback?)

He seems to have total faith in Marvin Candle. I can't even begin to imagine why, except that he's had his faith solidified once - when he didn't push the button, as he was bid, and the hatch imploded. He doesn't seem to consider that Marvin isn't just trying to generously keep him alive and walking, but that he may have sinister ulterior motives that are best served by keeping Locke as grateful, self-important and malleable as is possible. I guess he just had that empty a life before fate seemed to push him somewhere he considers significant, but surely common sense has to kick in somewhere along the line....

I just had a thought (run with me here lol) but Locke's relationship to Marvin just reminded me of Boone's relationship to Locke.

Boone
The blind faith that seems solidified (finding the hatch) which is then tested (when the Trebuchet didn't work) which is then confirmed (finding the beechcraft) which is then destroyed (death.)

Locke
The blind faith that seems solidifed (finding the hatch) which is then tested (Pearl) which is then confirmed (LTDA) which is then destroyed.....

This could just be another cycle of the same thing.

::SAD FACE::

Probably I should just look for a sad face icon. I don't like that potential cycle. Locke and destroyed... not a happy combo....

Maybe Locke is just following the 'path' he told Jack about in S1, the path leads to the hatch ect.. He almost lost the use of his legs, he could have percieved this as a warning of what might come if he doesn't follow the path. He sees all of these things as pointers as to where to go and what to do? He could beleive it is all his destiny and he feels obliged to do it, like he has to.

Yes exactly. And this is exactly why Locke is a dangerous man.

Yeah i agree with that, and i like the idea of 'Destiny' But sometimes i think flame 2 (locke) acts before he thinks. I mean he stopped pushing the button because flame 1 told him too, and look how that ended up? And now, in nearlly the same circumstances flame 1 tells him to enter 77 into the computer and he does I can guarentee that if locke found something off flame 1 saying dont press 77 he wouldnt.... he needs to think for himself...

I was actually surpriesd that the place didn't blow up immediatly. It was like it was waiting until Locke was clear (which is possibly ludicrous lol)

That's something I've just been thinking about. And remember there was a camera in the 'Flame' too. Maybe JL didn't blow up the hatch!

I know, it seemed like it was building up to that, with Kate packing the bag and when Sayid was talking to Danielle I was almost expecting it to blow up in the background.

lol yeah, I think he isn't a leader, he is a follower and is always looking for instructions on what to do next which also doesn't help.

Maybe the orientation tapes hypnotise you and the more you watch them the more you are drawn under the power of Dharma and Locke has watched them a lot.
