Default An imminent crisis of faith????

So how will Locke react to Henry's revelation that he never entered the numbers? Obviously we don't know what's the truth and what are lies regarding Henry, but assuming he's telling the truth for a moment and he didn't push the button and still nothing happened. This has to have a major impact on Locke. Will he still believe that the Island is showing him his destiny? Or will he wonder what he's been doing staying in 'his' hatch pushing a damn button all this time? Henry said 'This place is a joke!' It pains me to think Locke will think the joke was on him!!

Kind of mixed signals to John there in two ways.

Firstly, at the end of Lockdown, Henry said he did push the button. So he's been telling the truth at least once (question is, when). Of course he did say he's seen the hieroglyphs, but as we know this could be simply due to late button pushing.

Secondly, there is the map. Now that is interesting isn't it, and could be seen by John as a sign to guide him back to his path. And the map came first, before Henry told him the hatch is a joke.

Hmm..

I think that Locke is trying to convince himself that Henry is just lying again, and that entering the numbers is important, and that he hasn't just wasted a lot of people's time on it. If entering the numbers is pointless, then what will be Locke's destiny then? I don't think Locke believes button pushing is his ultimate purpose, but what could replace it for the time being? He doesn't seem to have anything else, poor man

If you go along with the theory that Henry was deliberatly trying to inflitrate the surviors and their hatch, then perhaps his superiors told him that the hieroglyphs would appear if the button wasn't pushed. Maybe he did push the button, but told Locke that he didn't because this is a new test for Locke: to continue pushing the button or let the clock run out to see for himself. But saying all that, I would be surprised if Henry would be capable of playing more mind games with Locke given the state he was in. But you never know...

Firstly i believe Henry when he says he didnt push the button. I think he let it run down and saw the glyphs..

I do feel that Locke 'may' have a crisis of faith in the hatch and consequensly start doubting his destiny.

Ive got to hand it to Locke..even though alot of things are starting to seem 'logical' and less shall we say divine [for example the light that shone up fromt he hatch in Deus ex..which was just Desmond and his lights/mirrors aligning] he has managed to stay true to his convictions. However i feel that this latest blow will hit him quite badly. However this doesnt have to be the case although first I think it's important that Locke remember something..something that he once advocated inspite of the cynics..that being the 'chain of events' and things happening for a reason. Because there was some good [as 108 pointed out] that came out of the Lockdown..and that being that the maps were revealed to him. Now although this was perhaps more down to luck then anything, he has to remember that all of this is a puzzle..one that he has to put together piece by piece in order to make up the 'bigger picture'..therefore he has to hold onto the fact that he has entered a new phase of his 'destiny'. The maps represent this next stage as they are surely important and include some interesting pointers.

If Locke bears this in mind and 'let's go' of the button a bit..then i reckon than his faith will be regalvanised rather than shattered.

Also, i think Locke should not let Henry get under his skin.. he finally has someone who is [probably] smarter than him..but whereas Ethan played dumb, Henry is unrelenting in his mind games. Not only does he always deflect a question directed at him with his own question but he probs Locke and antagonises him in the most remarable way. I think it would be wise for Locke to be very weary whentalking with henry. Locke's body has been fixed but his min dis still very susceptable to frsutration and even manipulation [Beachraft vision etc].
