Yeah that's fair enough. I personally didn't mean it or see it as a personal insult towards you but if that's how you saw it then fair enough.

Nor am I saying that you should be 'smilie censored'. All I'm doing is justifying why some people find them terribly mocking and insulting when in a debate. I am not saying you should stop using them by any means, I am merely giving a reason. Afterall, the extended use of smilies taken as a mocking nature caused Murg to get quite upset and stop debating in one instance. Sorry for using you as an example Murg but I'm just trying to get the point across. By no means am I telling you to stop using them or apologise, I am trying to show you why some people are offended by them when they are used in certain ways/times.

My view on smilies is that they're no different to words: it's like shorthand for 'I'm rolling my eyes at you because I find your argument ridiculous'. Which is okay - I mean, no-one should feel they can't do that if that's how they want to debate. But I don't think anyone should be surprised when people on the receiving end eventually cease to find it cute.

But anyway. Back on topic?

Smilies are common place on almost *every* forum. To censor their use is a bit OTT dont you think? *I* have uploaded the smilies to the server and theyre for people to use..theyre for expression - do you wish to censor expression, Murg? Expression which does not contravene the rules of the board?

Im sorry, but the smilies are here to stay..and i will continue to use and apply them as i see fit. I literally cannot believe this discussion..censorship of the emoticons?..well i never..ever ever ever

Lets reminise, Ana Stole the gun off Sawyer to Kill ben. She couldnt do it so gave the gun to micheal, who then killed her with it.

I hardly believe that Sawyer is guilty for Ana's death i mean it was completely micheals fault, And if you dont blame him, then you have to blame ana for giving him the gun. You cant keep going up in the scale of where the gun came from or else you'd end up blaming Jack/Locke for being irresponsible with the guns and getting them stolen (which is rather similair to ana/sawyer, they were tricked like he was) Eventually if you carried on with the gun scale you'd end up blaming Dharma for Ana's death for putting the guns on the island

I dont wanna get involved or anything im just pointing out that smilies can be a bit underminding. I completely agree with murgs post about the rolling eye smilie. It is like someone is rolling their eyes at your poor attempt of a thread. I'm not saying it shouldnt be used but maybe it would be better used in a humouros way??

I'm also not saying they should be banned because like kor said, they are an expression of what someone is thinking. You seem to be arguing a no win argument here, perhaps its better to just agree to disagree, or just use the rolling-eye smilie in a nice way.

Yes, but you've previously complained about my use of smilies before and so im bound to feel a little confused by further smilie-purges. The thing is, if you look at this the otherway round, one could argue that some of your posts are rather 'sharp' because of your lack of application (use) of them. Often smilies, be they rollie-eyed ones or otherwise add a bit of fun to a post and at the end of the day it boils down to interpretation of their use. I personally think that people should use them as they see fit..what would you rather, a post with zero smilies or a post with a few smilies dotted around the place?

As i said, reams of posts with no smilies at all often come across as quite sharp and unfriendly..
