Hehe..i must say i did laugh when Kate said that to Jawyer! I must also give Kate a virtual pat on the back for getting some humour into her personality!

But amid the laughter I suppose there is an poignent message there because Jack..the same JJack who infamously just cannot 'let go' and has to be looking after everyone and all of that..for once sacfirced that [as well as potentially sacrificing the lives of AL, Sayid and CHarlie] for a game of 'who's the better man?' with Sawyer!

Now im not sure whether I should congratualate Jack for finally not being such a control freak or whether I should slap him for leaving my poor AL out there alone with a deranged Sayid, Charlie and a potential army of 'Others'!

I mean fair enough he was 'letting go'..something he badly needs to incorporate into his character but..umm..Jack..NOW is not the time dude!! Especially when all he could be bothered about was beating Sawyer in a game of cards.

Whats wrong with this man!? Just when I think he's not so bad then he goes and does something brainless like leave AL [and the boys] out there..didnt he run after Michael a few days earlier?

Make you mind up Jack..im all for you letting go a tad more but get your timing right, huh.

To be honest, I'm not sure this was about letting go. On the surface it showed us Jack forgetting about the hatch, HG, being responsible etc, and just playing a few hands of cards.

BUT, I think he knew it was a chance to get one over on Sawyer after he conned them out of the guns/meds. The ruler line just summed it up. 'When I want the guns....I'll get the guns' reeked of arrogance and superiority.

But what about Kate. What was that 'I'm glad you beat Sawyer' line all about. She really is contrary. I think she feels a bit sidelined by Jack and it's a case of treat 'em mean...etc. I wonder how she'll feel realising what's been going on in the hatch, and that Ana, Sayid, Eko and Charlie all knew and not her.

I'm not sure it was Jacks ego that made him play those games of cards. He saw it surely merely as a means to win back his medicine. I don't think he see's Sawyer as a threat, more as a thorn in his side and not necessarily someone he needs to measure up to.

The person Jack has ego trips with is Locke. Locke is so much more of a competition to Jack and I'm sure Jack feels threatened by him and this is why he always needs to be one up on him.

Regarding Ana Lucia, I know you are concerned about your lady there KoR-evo, but if she can bring her team through the 48days of hell, whilst trying to keep one step ahead of the others, she is more than capable of a little trek into the jungle with Sayid and Charlie. I bet Jack saw it that way too.

At times, Kate just makes me cringe. She's playing those two men off [shes good at that ]..or perhaps she just cant make up her mind. Eithereway I wish she'd leave them alone. I cant stand Jate or Skate tbh..

And i dont think she would be too pleased knowing that every major player including Ana knew about the Henry Gale situation before she did. But she can't really blame Jack for not telling her, especially after her foolishness in THP

Saying that though, I do think that Jack has problems with comparing himself to people, stemming back from his father telling him that he could never be the hero. We've seen this egotistical comparison in season three now when he was flat out bullying Sarah into giving him the name of the man she was dating instead of him. And with Sawyer his main rival for Kate (or he was at the time) I think that he does compare himself to Sawyer (esspecially since, on the surface, Sawyer has the freedom Jack aches for.)

The person Jack has ego trips with is Locke.  Locke is so much more of a competition to Jack and I'm sure Jack feels threatened by him and this is why he always needs to be one up on him.

This is interesting actually; I've rarely looked at it this way (usually seeing it that Locke is the one threatened by Jack.) I think that Sawyer and Locke represent different areas of threat and that Jack also one-up's Locke because he reminds him of Christian.
